Over the past few weeks, our preschoolers at Minster Yard have been diving into the wonderful world of rhyming as they build essential early literacy skills. Through fun, interactive games and hands-on exploration, our little learners are strengthening their listening, sound discrimination, and phonemic awareness—all while having a blast!

Engaging Rhyming Games

To make rhyming practice lively and engaging, we’ve introduced three exciting games:

  1. Memory Game:
    • Rhyming pairs were hidden, and the children guessed which rhyme was missing when one was removed.
    • This activity sharpened their memory and rhyming recognition skills.
  2. Matching Pairs:
    • The preschoolers matched two objects or pictures that rhymed, such as “cat” and “hat.”
    • This game encouraged sound comparison and reinforced word connections.
  3. Master, Master, Can We Cross Your Silver River?
    • A fast-paced game where children crossed the “river” if their object rhymed with a given word.
    • This active play combined listening, movement, and quick thinking for a dynamic learning experience.
