Peckham Rye nursery is on Sternhall Lane, directly off Peckham High Street, and is easily accessible by foot, rail, or car for parents. We are fortunate to have a large nursery for our children with plenty of space to explore inside, and we regularly go to a nearby park to explore the woodland and let off steam.
Peckham nursery offers not only an excellent start to the children’s education with our Brighter Learning Approach curriculum but also has Cookery and Languages enhancements that help provide the very best in nursery care in Peckham.
These activities help to feed our children’s curious minds and grow their confidence in readiness for the next stage in their education in time for primary school.
We are a fun and happy team here at our nursery in Peckham with lots of long-serving staff and close connections with our families and the local community. Our community is diverse where equality, inclusion and diversity is at our core, and we welcome and celebrate every individual and give every child the solid foundations for success. Our aim is too make the nursery an extension of the child’s home by making them feel happy, comfortable and confident.
Please pop along for a tour of our nursery so you can see what the children enjoy on a daily basis.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
In our Peckham nursery we cook and learn languages as well as a whole host of daily activities that help our children thrive.
Budding musicians can explore different instruments at our children’s nursery, as well as enjoying rhythmic games, and participating in interactive sing-along sessions.
They’ll discover the joy of creating melodies, understanding beats, and expressing themselves through music.
Each activity is carefully crafted to inspire a love for music and develop their auditory skills in a fun and engaging environment.
Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them.
At our nursery they’re immersed into the world of Science through age appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.
Our chef is very much a part of the team and the children love it when he calls ‘cooking time’. Covered in their cooking aprons and chef’s hats the children use child-friendly utensils and a ‘cool-touch’ oven to produce cakes, bakes and breads.
These activities support our curriculum by teaching the children maths skills through counting and measuring and communication skills by listening to instructions and supporting each other.
Language lessons are a part of our daily vocabulary starting with baby-signing and following through to the older children with Spanish songs, stories and books.
Our aim is for our children to feel confident about exploring languages ready for participating in class at primary school.
We are always on the go at our nursery in Peckham. From moving to music to climbing on our indoor equipment we like to strengthen our bodies and be active.
Every day we go to the local park and practice ball skills and running and jumping games just like a mini P.E lesson.
Messy Mornings involves using our imaginations and creating all sorts of items using items we have gathered in the park to shredded paper, recycled cardboard and glue.
We will often attach Messy Mornings to a theme of the week depending on the season and sporting events that are happening at the time.
Our gardening activities are small but perfectly formed. We work with the children to teach them about the different stages involved in growing plants and plants herbs and water them, watching them grow quickly before its time to take them to Chef to include in his lunch menus.
By this simple activity the children are introduced to basic gardening that might become a lifelong skill and pleasure.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is just as much about the parent as it is for the child.
Sunhill Day Nursery Peckham commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and also via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. Our aim is to look after our parents as well as our children, so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and the checking and training of all staff.
Our daily meals are an important part of the day at Peckham. Our chef is very much a part of the nursery. The children take turns to lay the table and they self serve their delicious food.
Menus are changed every three weeks to keep them exciting and to introduce new textures and tastes to the children.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.
When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person. We encourage our parents to view the new room too and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of Sunhill Day Nursery Peckham is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.
We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies. Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework and within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities and enhancements that are suitable for their space.
At The Sunhill Day Nursery Peckham we offer the two enhancements of Cookery and Languages that help to make our nursery completely different to anything else you will experience in the local area.
Sunhill Day Nursery Peckham commits to providing a simple fee structure so you can manage your nursery costs.
To support our community, we do not charge for additions such as food, enhancements or consumables and some fully funded and part-funded sessions are also available for eligible families.
Please contact us for the nursery fee that is correct for your individual circumstances.
Our Baby Room is for children between the ages of 0 and 2. As a multi-cultural nursery, we follow the routines you have set at home, which helps your baby settle quickly and calmly.
The baby room has plenty of space, so once our babies begin to move, they enjoy exploring and developing quickly and confidently. Our babies’ communication skills start with babies signing and using their first words.
Once the babies are confident on their feet, they will move to the Toddler Room, where activities become more structured.
Toddler Room is big, bright, and bold! Here our toddlers begin to become more independent and we watch and nurture their individual personalities as they come to the fore.
In our Toddler Rooms, we focus primarily on establishing the basis of the strong social-emotional skills that will carry the children through their time here and onwards.
We build trust, self-confidence, and independence and support the growing awareness of other children.
All activities are planned with the individual children’s needs taken into consideration, focusing on prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Having been introduced to languages and cookery from such an early age, our pre-school children are confident and capable with taking on different tasks.
We work closely with them on skills such as holding a pencil and forming their first words, reading, basic maths and science exploration.
