A hidden nursery gem in Peckham

Peckham Rye nursery is on Sternhall Lane, directly off Peckham High Street, and is easily accessible by foot, rail, or car for parents. We are fortunate to have a large nursery for our children with plenty of space to explore inside, and we regularly go to a nearby park to explore the woodland and let off steam.

Peckham nursery offers not only an excellent start to the children’s education with our All Aboard Approach curriculum but also has Cookery and Languages enhancements that help provide the very best in nursery care in Peckham.

These activities help to feed our children’s curious minds and grow their confidence in readiness for the next stage in their education in time for primary school.

Our enriched curriculum embedded into every nursery

The All Aboard Approach is unique to The Old Station Nursery Group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.

The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.

The best place to see the All Aboard Approach in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.

Enhancements at Sunhill Day Nursery Peckham

In our Peckham nursery we cook and learn languages as well as a whole host of daily activities that help our children thrive.

Cooking at Peckham nursery

Our chef is very much a part of the team and the children love it when he calls ‘cooking time’.  Covered in their cooking aprons and chef’s hats the children use child-friendly utensils to produce cakes, bakes and breads. At Peckham, we follow a set curriculum to learn about the joys of cooking and gain lifelong skills such as measuring, counting and following set instructions.

Exploring music at Peckham nursery

Budding musicians can explore different instruments at our children’s nursery, as well as enjoying rhythmic games, and participating in interactive sing-along sessions.

They’ll discover the joy of creating melodies, understanding beats, and expressing themselves through music.

Each activity is carefully crafted to inspire a love for music and develop their auditory skills in a fun and engaging environment.

Discovering science at Peckham nursery

Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them.

At our nursery they’re immersed into the world of Science through age appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.

Languages at Peckham nursery

Language lessons are a part of our daily vocabulary starting with baby-signing and following through to the older children with Spanish songs, stories and books.

Our aim is for our children to feel confident about exploring languages ready for participating in class at primary school.

Physical activities at Peckham nursery

We are always on the go at our nursery in Peckham.  From moving to music to climbing on our indoor equipment we like to strengthen our bodies and be active.

Every day we go to the local park and practice ball skills and running and jumping games just like a mini P.E lesson.

Encouraging creativity at Peckham nursery

Messy Mornings involves using our imaginations and creating all sorts of items using items we have gathered in the park to shredded paper, recycled cardboard and glue.

We will often attach Messy Mornings to a theme of the week depending on the season and sporting events that are happening at the time.

Gardening at Peckham nursery

Our gardening activities are small but perfectly formed.  We work with the children to teach them about the different stages involved in growing plants and plants herbs and water them, watching them grow quickly before its time to take them to Chef to include in his lunch menus.

By this simple activity the children are introduced to basic gardening that might become a lifelong skill and pleasure.

Our promises at Sunhill Day Nursery Peckham

Parent Communication

At Sunhill Day Nursery Peckham, we believe children thrive when nurseries and families work together. That’s why we keep parents involved in their child’s day through regular conversations at pick-up time and updates shared through our parent app.

Whether you’d like to discuss your child’s care, development or daily experiences, our team is always happy to help. By building strong relationships with families, we can create a consistent and supportive experience between nursery and home.

Safety First, Safety Always

A safe environment is the foundation for everything we do. By maintaining high standards across all areas of nursery life, we create a place where children can learn, play and grow with confidence.

We follow robust policies and procedures that support the standards set by Ofsted and other relevant health, safety and safeguarding requirements. Our team also receives regular training to help ensure every child is cared for in a safe, secure and supportive environment.

Nursery Mealtimes

Mealtimes are an important part of the day at our Peckham nursery, and our chef is very much part of nursery life. Children are encouraged to take an active role by laying the table, serving themselves and enjoying meals together.

Our menus change every three weeks, introducing children to a variety of tastes and textures while helping them develop confidence and independence at mealtimes.

Key Person

Getting to know each child as an individual is an important part of life at Sunhill Day Nursery Peckham. Every child has a key person who takes time to understand their interests, routines and personality, while acting as the main point of contact for their family.

Your child’s key person will keep you updated on their day and be on hand to answer any questions you may have. As children move into new rooms, we provide settling sessions and support families through the transition, helping everyone become familiar with new routines, environments and relationships.

Next Stop School

Our Next Stop School programme helps children and families prepare for the move to primary school. Through school activities, teacher meet and greets, and graduation celebrations, children can become familiar with what lies ahead while celebrating everything they have achieved during their time with us.

Alongside supporting children, we work closely with families through learning journey updates, parent evenings, one-to-one discussions and home link learning kits that help continue learning beyond the nursery day.

Children leaving for primary school in June, July, August and September will also receive a £30 Clarks voucher towards their first pair of school shoes as a thank you for being part of our nursery family.

Nursery Activities

All our nurseries follow the All Aboard Approach, our bespoke curriculum inspired by the Early Years Foundation Stage. Alongside this, each nursery offers activities and experiences shaped by its children and environment.

At Sunhill Day Nursery Peckham, our cookery and language enhancements give children opportunities to develop new skills, explore different cultures and build confidence through hands-on experiences beyond the core curriculum.

Fees and Funding

We aim to make nursery costs as clear and straightforward as possible. To support our community, food, enhancements and consumables are included within our fees, with no additional charges for families.

We also offer fully funded and part-funded sessions for eligible families.

View our Fee Schedule and Funding Guide for full details, or speak to our nursery manager to discuss availability and the options available for your family’s circumstances.

A room for every stage of your child’s development

Baby Room

As a multi-cultural nursery, we follow the routines you have set at home, which helps your baby settle quickly and calmly.

The baby room has plenty of space, so once our babies begin to move, they enjoy exploring and developing quickly and confidently. Our babies’ communication skills start with babies signing and using their first words.

Once the babies are confident on their feet, they will move to the toddler room, where activities become more structured.

What our Peckham Nursery Manager says

“Here at Sunhill Peckham, we welcome each child as an individual and enjoying working with our parents and families to ensure that their interests and needs are continuously met. We pride ourselves on having a very diverse team, so we able to relate with people from many different backgrounds, religions, beliefs, orientations and identities. We have a very warm and welcoming atmosphere, which helps the children settle extremely well into our caring environment. We have a very large indoor space which makes up for the fact of not having a garden, however we go for community walks, local park visits and visit local landmarks twice a day. I am very confident and proud in my very hard-working team, who support me and the children in striving for success!”
