The nursery is set in a converted house in a quiet residential area of Walsall, perfect for families living nearby and in the surrounding borough.
Inside the nursery consists of five bright rooms divided by age group. All rooms are carefully planned and organised with age-appropriate resources and furniture, that encourages the children to explore and make independent choices.
Outside the space is an area where children can play and continue their learning all year round. Our garden area is split into two areas including Astro turf, so our babies can explore the area and all the fun equipment independently.
There is so much to do in Walsall’s garden. We have a large sand pit and activity centre to encourage the children’s gross motor movements as well as an area for the children to chalk on the floor or ride the bikes.
The wooden climbing apparatus is a favourite as well as a playhouse which changes from being a shop one week to a police station or fire station the next depending on what the children are interested in. We have a mud kitchen for the children to use their imagination and get their hands dirty as well as a side garden where we grow vegetables.
As you can see there is a lot happening at The Old Station Nursery and we encourage you to come along for a personal tour. Parents often say that we make the nursery feel very homely and friendly and that is all down to having the right staff and happy children.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
In addition to all the activities we enjoy in the garden we also offer a number of extra clubs that enhance our bespoke Brighter Learning Approach to the Early Years Statutory Framework.
Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them. At our nursery they’re immersed into the world of Science through age appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.
Budding musicians can explore different instruments at our children’s nursery, as well as enjoying rhythmic games, and participating in interactive sing-along sessions. They’ll discover the joy of creating melodies, understanding beats, and expressing themselves through music. Each activity is carefully crafted to inspire a love for music and develop their auditory skills in a fun and engaging environment.
Our children love nothing more than when the team calls time for meal preparation or works with the children to produce a teatime dessert or baking morning. The children learn so much in these activities including measuring, counting skills and following instructions.
At our children’s nursery Budding Artists are encouraged to explore their creativity through activities such as painting, drawing, and crafts. With a host of resources available, children are encouraged to experiment with colours and textures, and create imaginative masterpieces that showcase their unique talents.
In our little outdoor growing area we grow big things. The green beans will grow tall and strong just like our children. When we harvest our vegetables we are sure to include them in the children’s meals so they can experience the pleasure of the growth cycle and seeing their hard work come from the garden onto their plates.
First there is a jam swiss roll, then fruit salads, then perhaps some biscuit baking. Be sure to come for a tour of our nursery when we are busy cooking so you can see our measuring, weighing, counting and mixing in action as we learn these important skills.
Sports club keeps us fit and healthy and teaches us important and fun skills like kicking a ball and throwing bean bags. We like to get involved in national days such as Bike Week or forestry walks in our local woodland where we learn to read a compass, scrape tree bark and use binoculars.
The children at Walsall are busy learning to communicate verbally in English which is then also enhanced with some basic French words. These words are learnt extremely easily by young ears who absorb the information like sponges. Our aim is for our children to feel confident about exploring languages ready for participating in class at primary school.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is just as much about the parent as it is for the child.
The Old Station Nursery Walsall commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and also via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. Our aim is to look after our parents as well as our children, so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references.
Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area.
For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.
Our food is cooked on site daily. Our mealtimes are a time where we sit alongside the children encouraging them to use knives and forks and to talk about what we have been doing and what the children would like to do.
This helps to build confidence around mealtimes and is a pleasant time of day that is enjoyed by both children and staff.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.
When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person.
We encourage our parents to view the new room too and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of The Old Station Nursery Walsall is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.
We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies.
Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework and within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities and enhancements that are suitable for their space.
We hold regular craft workshops and open days where parents and carers are encouraged to come along and meet other parents to build your own personal friendships and networks ahead of primary school.
The Old Station Nursery Walsall commits to providing a simple fee structure so you can manage your nursery costs.

In the Baby room we encourage the children to begin to move around by getting down to their level and assisting as they pull themselves up and balance on the low level furniture.
We understand that parents may have not entrusted their baby to someone outside of the family before and that starting nursery can be a daunting time.
We work closely with our families to support them with the transition, following the same routine that has been set at home to help our babies settle as quickly as possible.
The toddler rooms give children further opportunities to explore using all their senses. Fun and stimulating activities are prepared by staff, to enhance the children’s learning and link to the individual child’s development.
This might include science experiments learning about melting ice or mixing different colours with colourful fruit juices.
Toddlers are supported by staff to be more independent at mealtimes and with toileting as well as helping them to express their preferences, share ideas, and work together with confidence.
In Pre-School the focus is to prepare the children for a smooth transition into primary school. In our indoor and outdoor classroom, we teach the children to be more independent, putting own coats and shoes on and fastening them, helping them with pencil control, encouraging them to write their own names on their work and writing their own captions.
We enjoy lots of eco-activities to introduce environmentally friendly practices to the children as well as outings in our local woodland to increase our forest skills.
The children take part in the Christmas play, summer concert, sports day and Easter Bonnet parade.
We hold luncheon clubs for parents to come along and try our nursery food.
