Premium nursery
The Old Station Nursery Granta Park is a premium nursery offering four extra learning enhancements for your child; these are Organic growing, Cookery and Language lessons; all delivered in a Montessori inspired way which encourages practical learning at each child’s unique pace.
Positioned centrally in an eco-friendly purpose built building on Granta Park, adjacent to the new Nuffield gym, many of our families work on the business park as well as travel in from the local town in Great Abington. There is lots of parking so drop off and pick up is a breeze.
Each room has access to its own garden area, three of which have canopies to shelter from the rain. The ground is laid to astro turf and each garden has a wide variety of resources, such as climbing frames, a water feature, large interchangeable blocks that can be moved and used for den building plus a look out area for bird watching. We have large wooden houses and planting areas accessible to all children.
Please join us for a personalised tour of our nursery at Granta Park so you can see our lovely environment and all the activities that make such a difference to our children.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
We offer the very best in nursery care, education and enhancements in the Great Abington area, providing an excellent start for our local children.
Several weekly activities and clubs complement the enhancements offered at this nursery.
The Montessori method emphasises five key learning areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics and Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
Each of these areas uses specific learning materials and practises, which are introduced in phases to our Granta Park children.
Through the cookery enhancement our children follow a curriculum that teaches them lifelong skills such as chopping with child-safe utensils and measuring ingredients; and they also learn the valuable skills of listening to instructions, being safe in the kitchen and teamwork.
Of course, the favourite part is the sampling of our wares, and you might find us eating our healthy treats at snack time or they may come home to parents and carers to enjoy on ‘Foody Friday’ when we choose a country and cook traditional dishes.
Whatever the bake or meal of the day is, the children love wearing their chef’s hats and aprons!
We have outdoor aprons too! These aprons are for the Organic nursery enhancement where the children get their hands into the soil and plant, water, cultivate and harvest their own organic produce.
We are partnered with SOIL Association and Food For Life, currently with a Bronze level which has been a significant first step towards improving our environment. The children eat organic food at least once a day, often grown by themselves thereby showing the full cycle of garden to plate.
Age-appropriate language lessons are an important part of learning, not least because the children find it so easy to pick up new signs and words at a young age.
Our parents enjoy being able to continue with their learning at home via the books and online access that we share.
We easily move from football and ball skills to free-flowing movement to music to get our blood pumping with Super Star Sports and Dance.
The team come in to deliver engaging sessions and the children get the chance to release their ample energy.
At our children’s nursery Budding Artists are encouraged to explore their creativity through activities such as painting, drawing, and crafts.
With a host of resources available, children are encouraged to experiment with colours and textures, and create imaginative masterpieces that showcase their unique talents.
Our children love nothing more than when the team calls time for meal preparation or works with them during a baking morning or to produce a teatime dessert. The children learn so much in these activities including measuring, counting skills and following instructions.
Come rain or shine, we tend our vegetable plots, teaching the children about the different stages of growth cycles and exploring the different tastes and textures of the produce.
As Budding Gardeners, children learn about the environment and gain lifelong sustainable growing skills and enjoyment, which they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Budding musicians can explore different instruments at our children’s nursery, as well as enjoying rhythmic games, and participating in interactive sing-along sessions.
They’ll discover the joy of creating melodies, understanding beats, and expressing themselves through music. Each activity is carefully crafted to inspire a love for music and develop their auditory skills in a fun and engaging environment.
Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them.
At our nursery they’re immersed into the world of Science through age appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is just as much about the parent as it is for the child.
The Old Station Nursery Granta Park commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and also via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. Our aim is to look after our parents as well as our children, so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and the checking and training of all staff.
Nutritious hot meals are prepared on-site at The Old Station Nursery Granta Park by our cook who also helps with the cookery enhancements when the children cook and bake themselves. As an organic nursery our promise is that your child will have at least one organic meal a day with meals being rotated on a three week basis.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.
When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person. We encourage our parents to view the new room too and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of The Old Station Nursery Granta Park is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.
We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies. Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework and within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities and enhancements that are suitable for their space.
At The Old Station Nursery Granta Park we provide the four enhancements of Cookery, Organic and Languages alongside a Montessori inspired teaching style which truly makes our nursery unique in the Great Abington area.
The Old Station Nursery Granta Park commits to providing a simple fee structure so you can manage your nursery costs.
At this nursery we provide private and government funded sessions for eligible parents. Contact us for the nursery fee that is correct for your individual circumstances.
There are two spacious areas in the baby room that offer a variety of activities that support our babies’ growth and exploration of their nursery world.
We work with each parent to understand your current routines, which we will follow in the nursery to help baby settle as quickly as possible.
We call the Toddler room ‘Sunshines’ because the children are always bursting with energy and light.
During their busy day, the toddlers are encouraged to be independent and apply the skills they have learned from the Montessori techniques by self-serving their own meals, for example.
Pre-school is split across two rooms and is all about independent play and children learning to express their emotions to better understand their own needs and those of others.
Here, we prepare the children for school by encouraging turn-taking and sharing, holding a pencil, learning to read, and looking at their new primary school uniforms. Granta Park pre-school children have experienced lots of real-life skill building and are, therefore, thoroughly prepared for school.
We’re excited to extend our ‘Free December’ offer to new families who register and start at our nursery by the 30th of September 2024.
