The Old Station Nursery Alcester is very much a part of the local community. We are based alongside the River Arrow and are within walking distance of the local high street, town museum and shops. We really enjoy our outdoor area that is made up of 3 areas with rooms leading into them for free-flow play. The garden area is alongside the river with lots of trees, birds, squirrels and frogs; all of which keep the children busy as we play games spotting our local wildlife visitors.
Keeping with the outdoor theme, we love to learn about sustainable growing practices and have cultivated a small allotment area in one of the gardens where we grow a whole host of vegetables including peppers, tomatoes, carrots and pumpkins, many of which we use in our cookery classes.
Our Alcester nursery is made up of three large rooms, all of which have been carefully organised to provide age-appropriate resources and equipment. Learning for younger children focuses on building the children’s sensory skills as well as engaging in a variety of activities to extend all areas of learning and development. The older children are encouraged to develop their independence, by self-serving at mealtimes and choosing their own activities so that when the time comes, they have the skills required to progress on to their chosen primary school. It is wonderful to see our children develop and take their next step in their education.
Please come along for a personal tour to see how your child can have the best nursery experience in Alcester.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
Our nursery in Alcester enjoys a unique collection of clubs and enhancements to provide the very best in nursery care and education in the local area. We enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities that keep our children busy all day long.
With the aid of a ‘cool touch’ oven, child-safe equipment and the children’s chef’s hats and aprons we follow a set curriculum to learn about the joys of cooking and gain lifelong skills such as measuring, counting and following set instructions. The children thoroughly enjoy the cookery classes and cannot wait to eat their delights at snack time, especially apple donuts!
Once a week during term time, Pre-school and Toddlers take part in Multi-sports provided by a local company. The high-energy sports coaches visit us with their equipment and provide a session that involves building obstacle courses, playground games and ball skills. It is a pleasure watching the children’s concentration and coordination improve as the term progresses.
We are a creative bunch at Alcester nursery. We always smile when a new delivery of toys and resources arrives, and the children end up creating their own role-play activities with the cardboard boxes! Messy play uses items that the children love to get their hands on, bringing their creative development and fine motor skills to the fore.
In our nursery garden you will see our mini allotments where we learn about sustainable growing. We sometimes eat our produce and other times we will grow vegetables such as pumpkins to use later in the year in our arts and crafts endeavours.
At Alcester nursery our Budding Movers dive into a variety of activities including dance, sports, and beyond. These engaging experiences are adored by both children and practitioners, seamlessly integrating movement with structured learning to enhance coordination, build confidence, and foster a sense of joy at nursery.
Budding musicians can explore different instruments at The Old Station Nursery, as well as enjoying rhythmic games, and participating in interactive sing-along sessions. They’ll discover the joy of creating melodies, understanding beats, and expressing themselves through music. Each activity is carefully crafted to inspire a love for music and develop their auditory skills in a fun and engaging environment.
Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them. At our nursery they’re immersed into the world of Science through age appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is just as much about the parent as it is for the child.
The Old Station Nursery Alcester commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and also via digital updates on the parent App. We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care.
Our aim is to look after our parents as well as our children, so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe.
Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and the checking and training of all staff.
Breakfast, snacks and afternoon tea are prepared on site by our kitchen assistant and our hot lunches and desserts are provided by an external catering company.
They deliver to us every day in time for us to gather around the table and enjoy this important part of the day.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions. When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person. We encourage our parents to view the new room too and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of The Old Station Nursery Alcester is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.
We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies. Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework and within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities and enhancements that are suitable for their space.
The activities at The Old Station Nursery Alcester are very much led by the children and their interests of the day. Adult-led activities are structured and focus around cookery, gardening, sports and arts and crafts.
The Old Station Nursery Alcester commits to providing a simple fee structure so you can manage your nursery costs.
At this nursery we provide private and government funded sessions for eligible parents. Contact us for the nursery fee that is correct for your individual circumstances.
Babies have their own homely room, where they can play with a variety of toys to help them learn with the addition of an attached sensory room for quiet times and sensory exploration. Each baby follows their own individual routine with a focus on a calm, nurturing environment.
Toddlers explore their environments by free-flowing from the indoor to outdoor covered area which has access to sand, water and playdough throughout the day. Activities here are both child-led and adult-led to help them develop, with Cookery being a favourite of the toddlers.
Pre-school is all about independent play, learning and understanding the needs of themselves and those around them. Here we prepare the children for school by encouraging turn-taking and sharing; holding a pencil, learning to read and looking at their new primary school uniforms. It is an exciting time for the children and a pleasure to watch them move on to their next stage of learning happy and confident.
