Our enriched curriculum embedded into every nursery

The All Aboard Approach is unique to The Old Station Nursery Group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.

The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.

The best place to see the All Aboard Approach in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.

Enhancements at The Old Station Nursery Uxbridge

Uxbridge nursery has lots to offer our local children, with something different every day to inspire and teach our children. We hold numerous extra activities that enhance our All Aboard Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework.

Cooking at Uxbridge nursery

Our children love nothing more than when the team calls time for meal preparation or works with them during a baking morning or to produce a teatime dessert.

With the aid of a ‘cool touch’ oven, child-safe equipment and the children’s chef’s hats and aprons we follow a set curriculum to learn about the joys of cooking and gain lifelong skills such as measuring, counting and following set instructions.

Physical activities at Uxbridge nursery

At Uxbridge nursery, our Budding Movers dive into a variety of activities, including dance, sports, and beyond. These engaging experiences are adored by both children and practitioners. They seamlessly integrate movement with structured learning to enhance coordination, build confidence, and foster a sense of joy at nursery.

One of the highlights is Dough Disco, a unique fine muscle activity that combines the fun of Play-Doh with the rhythm of disco music to stimulate children’s fine motor skills. It involves actions like rolling the dough into a ball, flattening it, and squeezing it, all in time to music. This activity not only helps children develop the dexterity needed for writing but also boosts their happiness and memory through musical engagement.

Gardening at Uxbridge nursery

At The Old Station Nursery Uxbridge, we meticulously maintain our vegetable plots, no matter the weather. Our dedicated staff guides children through every stage of plant growth, offering them hands-on experiences with our harvest’s diverse tastes and textures.

As Budding Gardeners at The Old Station Nursery Uxbridge, children learn about the environment and develop essential, sustainable gardening skills. These enriching experiences not only enhance their enjoyment of gardening but also equip them with valuable skills they will cherish for a lifetime.

Encouraging creativity at Uxbridge nursery

At The Old Station Nursery Uxbridge, Budding Artists are encouraged to explore their creativity through activities such as painting, drawing, and crafts. With a host of resources available, children are encouraged to experiment with colours and textures and create imaginative masterpieces that showcase their unique talents.

Discovering science at Uxbridge nursery

Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them. At our nursery, they’re immersed in the world of science through age-appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.

Exploring music at Uxbridge nursery

At The Old Station Nursery Uxbridge, our Shakers Music and Movement sessions offer budding musicians a dynamic introduction to the world of music. Children can explore a variety of instruments, engage in rhythmic games, and participate in interactive sing-along activities. These sessions are designed to help them discover the joy of creating melodies, understanding beats, and expressing themselves through music. Each Shakers Music and Movement activity is thoughtfully crafted to inspire a love for music while developing auditory skills in a fun and engaging environment.

Yoga at Uxbridge nursery

At The Old Station Nursery Uxbridge, children engage in vibrant yoga sessions that blend imaginative storytelling with age-appropriate routines to teach valuable yoga skills. During these classes, they practice poses such as the dog and snake and learn essential relaxation and breathing techniques. Each session is designed to be colourful and creative, aligning with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. This approach ensures that the yoga experience is both enjoyable and beneficial, supporting each child’s overall development.

Aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, Super Star Sports ensures that every activity supports the children’s overall growth and well-being in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Our promises at The Old Station Nursery Uxbridge

Parent Communication

Keeping families informed is an important part of nursery life. Through our parent app, you’ll receive daily updates about your child’s day, including meals, sleep and toileting information, as well as the moments and achievements that make each day special.

Alongside regular updates on our Facebook page and parent newsletters, we offer termly parents’ evenings with your child’s key worker. These meetings provide an opportunity to celebrate progress, discuss next steps and stay involved in your child’s learning and development.

Whether you have a quick question or would like a more in-depth conversation, our team is always happy to help.

Safety First, Safety Always

Before children can learn, play and explore, they need to feel safe and secure. At our nursery in Uxbridge we follow robust policies and procedures across all areas of nursery life, helping us meet the standards set by Ofsted and other relevant health, safety and safeguarding requirements.

Our team receives regular training in areas including safeguarding, health and safety, food hygiene and paediatric first aid, alongside ongoing professional development opportunities that help us maintain high standards of care.

By combining a safe environment with a well-trained team, we create a setting where children can thrive and families can feel confident in the care we provide.

Nursery Mealtimes

At The Old Station Nursery Uxbridge, mealtimes are about more than simply serving food. We support children’s understanding of healthy eating by involving them in conversations about ingredients, introducing them to different foods and encouraging them to explore where food comes from.

Our team carefully manages individual dietary requirements, while children have opportunities to see whole vegetables before they’re prepared and even grow their own fruit and vegetables in the nursery garden.

We’re also proud to hold a 5‑star Food Hygiene Rating, the highest rating awarded by Environmental Health Officers for food safety standards.

Key Person

Children benefit from familiar faces and consistent support as they grow and develop. Each child at our Uxbridge nursery has a key person who gets to know them well and acts as the main point of contact for their family.

Your child’s key person will keep you updated on their day and be on hand to answer any questions you may have. As children move into new rooms, we offer settling sessions and room visits to help them become familiar with their new environment, routines and relationships.

By working closely with families throughout these transitions, we help ensure children feel supported and confident at every stage of their nursery journey.

Next Stop School

At The Old Station Nursery Uxbridge, our Next Stop School programme helps children and families look ahead to the move to primary school with confidence. Through school activities, teacher meet and greets, and graduation celebrations, children can begin to explore what their next chapter might look like.

Parents are supported too, through learning journey updates, parent evenings, one-to-one discussions and home link learning kits that help strengthen the connection between nursery and home.

Children leaving for primary school in June, July, August and September will also receive a £30 Clarks voucher towards their first pair of school shoes as a thank you for being part of our nursery family.

Extra Curricular Activities

All our nurseries follow the All Aboard Approach, our bespoke curriculum inspired by the Early Years Foundation Stage. Alongside this, each nursery offers additional activities and experiences shaped by its children and environment.

Children can enjoy activities including yoga, movement classes, Dough Disco, gardening, art, science, cooking and music. These experiences encourage children to try new things, express themselves and develop new skills beyond the core curriculum.

We also host open days throughout the year, giving families opportunities to connect with one another and become part of our nursery community.
