The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.

Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
Our nursery is very much a part of Wombourne village where we get involved in activities across town. We hold numerous extra clubs that enhance the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework.
With the aid of a ‘cool touch’ oven, child-safe equipment and the children’s chef’s hats and aprons we follow a set curriculum to learn about the joys of cooking and gain lifelong skills such as measuring, counting and following set instructions.
We passionate about the transformative developmental benefits of music. That’s why each week we invite in the Team at Rhythm Time to deliver award-winning music classes.
The meticulously crafted classes cater to babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, ensuring that every engaging activity enriches their development in unique and meaningful ways.
We use an array of different materials to produce art that gives the children a great sense of achievement.
This could be anything from painting with toothbrushes to building pictures from the twigs and leaves we find on our walks.
At Sandhills Wombourne, we believe in nurturing every child’s culinary creativity! Our cooking sessions are a delightful blend of fun and learning in the kitchen. Whether they’re whipping up a nutritious meal or baking scrumptious treats, children engage in hands-on activities to learn essential skills such as measuring, counting, and following instructions.
They also develop a deep appreciation for healthy eating. Cooking together fosters teamwork and sparks creativity, and the joy on their faces when tasting their creations is truly priceless. It’s more than just cooking; it’s about building confidence and creating cherished memories.

At Sandhills Wombourne, we cultivate a love for nature through our Budding Gardeners program. Rain or shine, our young gardeners eagerly tend to our vegetable patches, relishing the muddy fun. They learn about various plant growth stages and delight in exploring the tastes and textures of the produce they help grow.
These activities promote environmental stewardship and sustainable gardening practices, nurturing a sense of responsibility and wonder for the natural world. Witnessing their excitement during harvest time is a joy and a skill they will carry with them throughout life.

Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is as much about the parent as it is for the child.
Sandhills Day Nursery Wombourne commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. We aim to look after our parents as well as our children so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references.
Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area. For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.
Our nursery provides meals prepared on-site by our dedicated chef. We cater to all dietary preferences and have robust procedures in place for children with food allergies.
As a nut-free nursery, we are committed to promoting healthy eating and strictly follow nutritional guidelines for children.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.
When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person. We encourage our parents to view the new room too, and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of Sandhills Day Nursery Wombourne is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey. We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies. Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
We have key links to local nursery schools such as St Bernadettes and Blakely Heath, where many of the children go of to after Pre-School.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework. Within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities, and enhancements suitable for their space.
Sandhills Day Nursery Wombourne offers flexible childcare with several session options as well as private, part-funded and some fully funded places for eligible families.

At Wombourne, our littlest ones have their own special space where they can grow their balance, confidence, and independence before joining the main nursery.
They love diving into sensory baskets, listening to a medley of songs and rhymes, and discovering new sounds with musical instruments. Out in our gardens, they have a blast exploring and enjoying the fresh air.
As they grow, our older babies dive into all sorts of creative fun like painting, splashing in water play, and building sandcastles. These activities not only spark their imagination but also nurture their budding artistic talents.
Younger toddlers in Mr Mischief’s room eagerly explore their environment, immersing themselves in imaginative play in our role-play area and honing their fine motor skills in the construction zone.
Meanwhile, older toddlers in Mr. Messy’s room embark on adventures in our small world area, where their creativity shines as they craft scenes in the farm and playhouse.
Our children delight in using loose parts to build structures, all the while sharpening their mathematical skills as they discuss quantities and shapes.
Pre-School children thrive by developing their independence skills by carrying out small tasks such as classroom monitor.
The children engage themselves in role play activities including learning all about different occupations in the vet’s role play area.
