To celebrate World Space Week, the children at Heath Mill engaged in a number of ‘space-themed’ activities. From building rockets to creating planets, the children were fully immersed in all things space!

First, the children were challenged with creating a rocket. The team set out a beautiful activity tray filled with metallic 3D shapes which the children used to build their creations. The children spoke about how many shapes they had used and even included some of the small world people in their rockets, to blast off into space!

Next, the children engaged in an activity where they used different sized balloons to create the different sized planets. The children discussed each planet and the various colours that they could see.

Finally, the children made another rocket but this time using different materials. They used wooden blocks and paint to create their vessels and talked together about the shapes and colours they had used, comparing the differences between each other’s.

These activities were a great opportunity for the children to not only learn about space, but to expand on their communication and language skills as they spoke about their creations. The children also used their creativity to create their own rockets, choosing their own paint colours and designing their own rockets.

It is crucial for children to learn about our Wonderful World, the environment, planet, and community to develop a holistic understanding of the interconnectedness of all living things.
