Nestled in a grand converted house with breath-taking views of rolling fields, Sandhills Day Nursery Alvechurch offers a truly unique environment for any child’s early years. Across our seven main playrooms, each designed to foster a child’s curiosity and development, we look after more than 90 children a day.
Our babies begin their journey on the second floor, where we’ve made a cozy, nurturing space for our youngest minds. As children grow more mobile and active, they move to the downstairs rooms, which encourage exploration both inside and outside the nursery.
Although our nursery is spacious we maintain a warm, home-from-home feel, providing children with a natural, light-filled environment.
Outside, the children enjoy have two secure, enclosed gardens, each offering distinct learning experiences. The top garden is a haven for imaginative play, equipped with a mud kitchen, logs, tires, tubing, and more, allowing children to express themselves creatively. The bottom garden focuses on developing gross and fine motor skills with various physical activities.
Our location, with its stunning views of rolling hills, offers endless opportunities for outdoor exploration and every Friday, all children look forward to our ‘Foresty Fun’ sessions, where they engage with nature and enjoy outdoor adventures – it’s where the children’s imaginations really run wild.
At Sandhills Day Nursery Alvechurch children spend a significant amount of time outside, discovering the natural world and making the most of our beautiful surroundings and we believe in the power of nature to inspire and educate, creating a rich, engaging experience for every child.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.

We have two beautiful baby rooms, segregated by ages (0-18 months and 18-24 months).
In our baby rooms we support growing children’s independence with self-accessible resources and a variety of adult-led activities that nurture a love of learning, focusing on language skills and early numeracy and literacy. Role play activities are also provided as a key learning tool to spark children’s imaginations.
The day’s pace revolving entirely around the babies routines and we provide cots and additional sleep mats, ensuring babies can rest whenever needed under the continuous observation of our team.
Our secure, enclosed garden allows our youngest children to play freely and safely, offering opportunities for physical activity with a large climbing frame, slide, bikes, and scooters.
Resources like logs, tyres, and cable reels encourage imaginative play and exploration. And the children enjoy daily outdoor activities, often extending their indoor learning outside with factual books, magnifying glasses, and technology resources. We encourage parents to provide raincoats and wellington boots for outdoor play in all weather conditions.
Following the EYFS Curriculum, we monitor development progress through observations, planning, and assessment and the children are assigned a key person to foster strong, personal bonds and enriching experiences.
Around 2.5 years old, once children are confident and physically ready, they progress into the toddler room. Here, we encourage greater independence, helping them develop essential skills for their early years. This room serves as perfect preparation for pre-school, featuring group discussions to build confidence and facilities for role play, construction, exploration, and experimentation. A cozy corner and craft area are also accessible, with planned activities and free play providing countless learning opportunities daily.
Mealtimes in the toddler room are sociable, with children sitting together at a table with staff to enjoy freshly prepared food in a family-like environment. Children play outside twice daily, enjoying a good run around in the outdoor area both morning and afternoon. While sleep needs vary, there is a designated ‘quiet time’ after lunch with sleep mats and blankets for those who wish to rest.
At around 3 years old, children move up to the pre-school room, where learning through play continues to thrive. Although there is a general timetable, activities are child-led whenever possible. Mealtimes remain sociable occasions, with children encouraged to help with table laying and serving, just like at home.
We also strive to build strong links with local schools to facilitate a smooth transition for your child. Registered for Early Education Funding for 3 and 4-year-olds, we meet specific criteria for planning and curriculum delivery, ensuring your child receives all the necessary preparation before starting school.
At Alvechurch, we offer FREE childcare for siblings*, allowing them to benefit from nursery education and prepare for their next stage of learning at school.
