Outdoor learning
Early start
Nestled in a cosy residential area near Imjin Barracks, The Old Station Nursery Mottershead is dedicated to creating a warm and inviting environment where children aged 0-4 start their early years education.
With a ‘home from home’ environment, toddlers and Pre-Schoolers receive tailored care from qualified and passionate Nursery Practitioners who are at the heart of our nursery family. Rooms are split depending on age group, meeting the developmental needs of each child, encouraging them to flourish at their own pace.
Our outdoor learning area consists of three separated spaces that provide a mixture of surfaces, play equipment, resources and activities for all children to explore, including our very own ‘Buggingham Palace’. Book a personal nursery tour today to experience our exceptional facilities first-hand and see how our spaces can enrich your child’s learning.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
At our Mottershead Drive nursery, activities are conducted both indoors and outdoors, making full use of the large outdoor areas. During your nursery tour, you’ll see these activities in action and learn more about the benefits they offer for your child’s learning and development.
Throughout the week, we offer various extra clubs that enhance our Brighter Learning Approach, a unique adaptation of the Early Years Statutory Framework.
Budding musicians can explore different instruments at our children’s nursery, as well as enjoying rhythmic games, and participating in interactive sing-along sessions. They’ll discover the joy of creating melodies, understanding beats, and expressing themselves through music. Each activity is carefully crafted to inspire a love for music and develop their auditory skills in a fun and engaging environment.
At The Old Station Nursery Mottershead Drive, our Budding Gardeners actively care for vegetable patches within the outdoor nature area.
They participate in planting seeds, sampling a variety of fresh vegetables, and discovering the marvels of growth. Beyond gardening, we emphasise environmental responsibility and teach children about our wonderful world through fun and engaging outdoor experiences.
At Mottershead Drive Nursery, Budding Movers thrive in Boogie Beats, a dynamic dance class adored by both children and staff. This interactive session blends music and movement with educational elements, fostering coordination and boosting confidence amongst the little ones.
At Mottershead Drive Nursery, children enjoy exploring materials, solving problems, and learning about what it’s like to be a Budding Scientist. We encourage them to ask questions, nurturing their natural curiosity and preparing them for a lifetime of learning.
Children are immersed into the exciting world of cooking at The Old Station Nursery. They learn fundamental skills such as measuring ingredients, mixing different flavours and textures, and following easy step-by-step recipes with the guidance of our Nursery Practitioners. From baking cookies to preparing healthy snacks, children gain confidence in their abilities and develop a lifelong appreciation for cooking and nutrition.
At The Old Station Nursery Mottershead Drive, Budding Artists are encouraged to explore their creativity through our dedicated Creativity Club.
The club provides children with opportunities to express themselves artistically through activities such as painting, drawing, and crafts.
With a host of resources available, children are encouraged to experiment with colours and textures, and create imaginative masterpieces that showcase their unique talents.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is as much about the parent as it is for the child.
The Old Station Nursery Mottershead Drive commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. We aim to look after our parents as well as our children so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references.
Our main entrance door features a lock that cannot be accessed from outside, and an additional chain that provides enhanced security. We have strict collection policies and procedures in place, including a senior staff member stationing the door to oversee morning drop-offs and the use of passwords, to ensure the safe and authorised pickup of children.
Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area.
For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.
At The Old Station Nursery Mottershead Drive, our in-house cook prepares freshly made, nutritious meals tailored to children’s allergies and dietary needs.
We offer three delicious meals daily, along with healthy snacks and homemade desserts. Our rotating menu changes every three weeks, ensuring variety and seasonal updates, supported by our 5-star Food Hygiene Rating.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.
When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person. We encourage our parents to view the new room too, and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of The Old Station Nursery Mottershead Drive is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.
We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies. Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework. Within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities, and enhancements suitable for their space.
The Old Station Nursery Mottershead Drive enjoys multiple clubs including Budding Gardeners, Budding Movers, Budding Scientists and Budding Artists. We also hold open days where parents and carers are encouraged to come along and meet other parents to build their own personal friendships and networks ahead of primary school.
The Old Station Nursery Mottershead Drive commits to providing a simple fee structure so you can manage your nursery costs.
At this nursery, we provide private and government-funded sessions for eligible parents. Contact us for the nursery fee that is correct for your individual circumstances.
Our Baby Room at The Old Station Nursery offers a nurturing environment for our youngest learners. Designed to stimulate curiosity and sensory exploration, this room helps babies transition smoothly from home to nursery. With soft play equipment and a variety of developmental toys, we closely follow each baby’s individual routines to ensure they feel secure and supported.
The Toddlers room downstairs is designed for children to actively explore and start forming friendships with their peers. This vibrant space is divided into various creative zones, allowing toddlers to engage in activities such as sand play, painting, and playdough, which enhance their creativity and fine motor skills. The room also includes designated areas for role-playing and small world activities, promoting imaginative play and social interaction.
The Pre-School room, also located downstairs, is tailored for children aged 3-4 years, preparing them for the transition to primary school. This room offers a rich variety of learning experiences that promote early literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills. Children engage in structured activities such as circle time, themed projects, and early writing exercises, as well as free play that encourages creativity and problem-solving. Pre-Schoolers have direct access to the woodland area, becoming nature explorers engaging in hands-on learning experiences, discovering local wildlife, and developing their understanding of our wonderful world.
“We are a small, friendly nursery with a great team. Bursting with opportunities to give each child the opportunity to find their own unique natural talents and interests.”
