The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.

Being on the Kent coastline we embrace outdoor exploration as much as indoor activities – weather permitting.

Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them.
At our nursery they’re immersed into the world of Science through age appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.
Budding musicians can explore different instruments at our children’s nursery, as well as enjoying rhythmic games, and participating in interactive sing-along sessions.

We give your children a positive introduction to sport by teaching high quality football skills in a friendly, pressure-free environment.
There are four different classes tailored specifically to the needs of children between 18 months and eight years of age. It’s the perfect way to ignite an enthusiasm for sport that will stay with them for life
Energetic and exciting, Rugby Tots is the perfect introduction to the game for children of all ages, from toddlers to primary schoolers.
Our fabulous energetic coaches inspire the children, creating a fun, positive atmosphere for each age group, helping kids learn how to pass, kick, catch and play as part of a team.
At our nursery, we are delighted to offer dance sessions as an exciting extracurricular activity. Through the joy of movement and rhythm, our dance classes provide a range of developmental benefits for our young ones.
Dance helps infants and toddlers develop coordination, balance, and motor skills, while encouraging self-expression, creativity, and social skills.
At our nursery, we proudly offer yoga as an exciting extracurricular activity. Our specially designed yoga sessions provide a multitude of benefits for young minds and bodies. Through gentle stretches, poses, and breathing exercises, children develop flexibility, balance, and body awareness.

These activities are not only fun but also teach essential skills such as measuring, counting, and following instructions.
Our Budding Movers club offers developmental classes featuring musical instruments, sensory equipment, puppets, and dance.
These activities promote coordination, creativity, and confidence among the children. When weather allows, we love hosting dance club in our garden, where children enjoy using streamers, hopping across coloured disks, and jumping through hoops to music.
Come rain or shine, our budding gardeners delight in caring for vegetable planters, learning about growth cycles, and exploring the tastes and textures of different produce.
These activities instill environmental awareness and sustainable gardening skills that children will carry with them for life.
Budding Artists at Herne Bay is a favourite among children, with parents appreciating the creativity without the mess at home.
These sessions feature a variety of materials like paint, flour, leaves, playdoh, lentils, shredded paper, and glue, encouraging artistic exploration and fine motor skill development. Our nursery supports messy play and ensures everything is tidy before lunchtime.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is as much about the parent as it is for the child. Townsend Montessori Herne Bay commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. We aim to look after our parents as well as our children so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references.
Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area. For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.
We partner with outside caterers to provide freshly cooked, hot meals for lunch every day. Our meals are prepared on-site, catering to a variety of dietary requirements. Children enjoy two hot meals daily, supplemented with healthy snacks like fresh fruit.
Our menu is seasonally inspired and rotates every three weeks to keep mealtimes exciting and diverse for the children.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.
When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person. We encourage our parents to view the new room too, and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of Townsend Montessori Herne Bay is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.
We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies. Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework.
Within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities, and enhancements suitable for their space.
Townsend Montessori Herne Bay offers flexible childcare with several session options as well as private, part-funded and some fully funded places for eligible families.

The Squirrels Room is a calm, cozy space designed to feel like home, perfect for caring for babies. It offers a variety of sensory resources and heuristic play to stimulate their young minds. The main room is bright and filled with exciting resources and activities to foster imagination and growth. Additionally, the room is equipped with a nappy changing station, child sized toilets for potty training, and cots and small beds for nap time.
The babies also have their own dedicated garden space, where active play is promoted, allowing them to explore at their own pace.
The Hedgehogs Room is bright and spacious, located on the ground floor with a view of the garden. Inside, there is a dedicated role play area where children can reenact their home experiences and explore new ones. With direct access to the garden, children can freely move between indoors and outdoors, experiencing different parts of the garden throughout the day.
At our nursery, we encourage children to be independent. They pour their own drinks and self-serve at mealtimes, making their own choices about lunch and snacks while learning about healthy eating. During this stage of their learning, they are encouraged to participate in activities such as “little jobs” during circle time and self-serving during mealtimes.
These activities help them acquire the necessary skills for a smooth transition to school. Our dedicated Key Carers provide support and guidance to ensure that children feel prepared and confident for the next stage of their educational journey.
