An outdoor learning environment at My First Friends Nursery Droitwich

The team at My First Friends Nursery Droitwich is here to welcome you to a personal tour of our nursery, where we can answer questions you might have about this exciting first step in your child’s nursery education.

We are delighted to say that My First Friends Nursery Droitwich is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, and there are many reasons why we have achieved this best nursery rating in the Droitwich area. Our Droitwich children’s nursery is focused on the great outdoors, surrounded by woodland for your little explorer to learn and play in. This includes a large garden and allotment area where the children can plant and grow their own food, encouraging a sustainable way of life through a host of gardening experiences that focus on helping them flourish.

Our enriched curriculum embedded into every nursery

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.

The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.

The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.

Clubs and enhancements at My First Friends Nursery Droitwich

Activities at our Droitwich nursery are often based around our outdoor space, come rain or shine. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful outdoor area, and we encourage you to come and view the nursery to see how much the children enjoy the space. We also hold numerous extra clubs throughout the week that enhance our Brighter Learning Approach which is our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework.

Budding Movers at Droitwich nursery

At our Droitwich nursery Budding Movers dive into a variety of activities including dance, sports, and beyond. These engaging experiences are adored by both children and practitioners, seamlessly integrating movement with structured learning to enhance coordination, build confidence, and foster a sense of joy at nursery.

Budding Chefs at Droitwich nursery

Our children love nothing more than when the team calls time for meal preparation or works with the children to produce a teatime dessert or baking morning. The children learn so much in these activities including measuring, counting skills and following instructions.

Budding gardeners at Droitwich nursery

It is all about the allotments here at My First Friends Nursery Droitwich. The children, in their wellies and coats, set about growing their own fruits and vegetables. Our favourite crops to grow are carrots and strawberries, providing a nutritious snack to keep your little one going throughout the nursery day.

As Budding gardeners, children learn about the environment and gain lifelong sustainable growing skills and enjoyment, which they will carry with them throughout their lives.

Budding movers at Droitwich nursery

At Droitwich Nursery, our budding movers enjoy Fit4Sport. The highly trained team of sports coaches come along and deliver a sports session that includes basic throwing and catching skills, running, jumping, and football for nursery children, helping to refine the children’s gross motor skills and enhance their confidence.

Budding musicians at Droitwich nursery

In addition to lots of opportunities to enjoy and make music, Naomi, our early-years music professional delivers a range of songs and musical activities. In the summer, residents of Droitwich town will no doubt hear the melodies and great fun radiating from our nursery.

Budding artists at Droitwich nursery

Pyjama Drama is a firm favourite for the children and staff. Once a week, an external professional comes to the nursery to teach the children to move their bodies and use their imaginations like drama students. When you book a nursery tour at Droitwich nursery, you might see us pretending to be on a boat or out on safari or planning our next adventure!

Alongside our physical artistic impression, we encourage the children to take part in all forms of arts and crafts every day. Your fridge door will soon become full of your little artist’s creations.

Our promises at My First Friends Nursery Droitwich

Parent Communication

Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is as much about the parent as it is for the child

My First Friends Nursery Droitwich commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and via digital updates on the parent App.

We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s careWe aim to look after our parents as well as our children so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.

Nursery Safety First, Safety Always

First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safeBefore we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references

Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area.  For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.

Nursery Mealtimes

During Summer 2024, we are having a fantastic refurbishment of the nursery, including the kitchen, so currently, our hot food is delivered daily by an outside caterer

As soon as the refurbishment is complete, we will cook hot, fresh meals on site every day, sometimes using the home-grown fruit and vegetables the children have grown in the allotment.

Key Person

Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contactYour key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions

When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person

We encourage our parents to view the new room too, and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.

Next Stop School

It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary schoolPart of the unique offering of My First Friends Nursery Droitwich is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journeyWe prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies

Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.

Nursery Activities

All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach to the Early Years Statutory Framework, our bespoke curriculum.  Within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities, and enhancements suitable for their space.

My First Friends Nursery Droitwich has a wonderful outdoor environment where we enjoy Budding Gardeners, Budding Movers, Budding Musicians, and Budding Artists’ clubs, some of which are delivered by external early years professionals who visit us.  We also hold open days where parents and carers are encouraged to come along and meet other parents to build their own personal friendships and networks ahead of primary school.

What do the latest funding announcements in March 2023 mean for parents?

Earlier this month (March 2023), the government announced that in the coming years, there will be some additions to the funding available to parents across the UK. They announced that:

  • From April 2024, all working parents of 2-year-olds can access 15 hours per week
  • From September 2024, all working parents of children aged 9 months up to 3-years-old can access 15 hours per week
  • From September 2025, all working parents of children aged 9 months up to 3-years-old can access 30 hours free childcare per week

The government is yet to announce any further detail, however, when they do so, we will be able to share further information about how and when parents may be able to take advantage of these additional funded sessions.
