Ofsted Outstanding
Spacious outdoor environment
The team at My First Friends Nursery Droitwich is here to welcome you to a personal tour of our nursery, where we can answer questions you might have about this exciting first step in your child’s nursery education.
We are delighted to say that My First Friends Nursery Droitwich is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, and there are many reasons why we have achieved this best nursery rating in the Droitwich area. Our Droitwich children’s nursery is focused on the great outdoors, surrounded by woodland for your little explorer to learn and play in. This includes a large garden and allotment area where the children can plant and grow their own food, encouraging a sustainable way of life through a host of gardening experiences that focus on helping them flourish.
There is also a play park located within a large spacious woodland area on the nursery grounds, where children can play outdoors and experience a variety of child-friendly equipment such as sandpits, a construction area, a fire pit, a mud kitchen and a bug hotel, or what we like to call it, ‘Buggingham Palace’.
Our nursery is very much a part of the Droitwich community. We are based opposite Witton Middle School on Old Coach Road, and we sometimes venture out to visit Droitwich Lido, the library, train station and Droitwich town centre.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
Activities at our Droitwich nursery are often based around our outdoor space, come rain or shine. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful outdoor area, and we encourage you to come and view the nursery to see how much the children enjoy the space. We also hold numerous extra clubs throughout the week that enhance our Brighter Learning Approach which is our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework.
At our Droitwich nursery Budding Movers dive into a variety of activities including dance, sports, and beyond. These engaging experiences are adored by both children and practitioners, seamlessly integrating movement with structured learning to enhance coordination, build confidence, and foster a sense of joy at nursery.
Our children love nothing more than when the team calls time for meal preparation or works with the children to produce a teatime dessert or baking morning. The children learn so much in these activities including measuring, counting skills and following instructions.
It is all about the allotments here at My First Friends Nursery Droitwich. The children, in their wellies and coats, set about growing their own fruits and vegetables. Our favourite crops to grow are carrots and strawberries, providing a nutritious snack to keep your little one going throughout the nursery day.
As Budding gardeners, children learn about the environment and gain lifelong sustainable growing skills and enjoyment, which they will carry with them throughout their lives.
At Droitwich Nursery, our budding movers enjoy Fit4Sport. The highly trained team of sports coaches come along and deliver a sports session that includes basic throwing and catching skills, running, jumping, and football for nursery children, helping to refine the children’s gross motor skills and enhance their confidence.
In addition to lots of opportunities to enjoy and make music, Naomi, our early-years music professional delivers a range of songs and musical activities. In the summer, residents of Droitwich town will no doubt hear the melodies and great fun radiating from our nursery.
Pyjama Drama is a firm favourite for the children and staff. Once a week, an external professional comes to the nursery to teach the children to move their bodies and use their imaginations like drama students. When you book a nursery tour at Droitwich nursery, you might see us pretending to be on a boat or out on safari or planning our next adventure!
Alongside our physical artistic impression, we encourage the children to take part in all forms of arts and crafts every day. Your fridge door will soon become full of your little artist’s creations.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is as much about the parent as it is for the child.
My First Friends Nursery Droitwich commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. We aim to look after our parents as well as our children so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references.
Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area. For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.
During Summer 2024, we are having a fantastic refurbishment of the nursery, including the kitchen, so currently, our hot food is delivered daily by an outside caterer.
As soon as the refurbishment is complete, we will cook hot, fresh meals on site every day, sometimes using the home-grown fruit and vegetables the children have grown in the allotment.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.
When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person.
We encourage our parents to view the new room too, and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of My First Friends Nursery Droitwich is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey. We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies.
Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach to the Early Years Statutory Framework, our bespoke curriculum. Within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities, and enhancements suitable for their space.
My First Friends Nursery Droitwich has a wonderful outdoor environment where we enjoy Budding Gardeners, Budding Movers, Budding Musicians, and Budding Artists’ clubs, some of which are delivered by external early years professionals who visit us. We also hold open days where parents and carers are encouraged to come along and meet other parents to build their own personal friendships and networks ahead of primary school.
My First Friends Nursery Droitwich commits to providing a simple fee structure so you can manage your nursery costs.
At this nursery, we provide private and government-funded sessions for eligible parents. Contact us for the nursery fee that is correct for your individual circumstances.
Children aged 6 weeks – 16 months are situated upstairs in the ‘Dreamers’ room. Three conjoining rooms offer a relaxed space with natural light beaming through the windows.
In little Dreamers, we continue the routine you have devised at home to give the babies consistency and a homely environment to make them feel safe. As your baby grows and your routine at home changes, we will change with you. At My First Friends Nursery Droitwich, we pride ourselves on our parent and nursery relationships ensuring we work together as a team. When you first join us, we encourage you to come for as many settling-in sessions as you feel you need.
The older babies’ room, called ‘Discoverers’, is connected to the Babies’ room for those aged 16 months – 2 years old. Both rooms are equipped with various equipment, such as balancing beams, slides, and apparatus, to support younger children in achieving key milestones, such as walking, and improving their ability to develop at a steady pace.
We also host a weekly music drama group to encourage children’s social and emotional skills, where they can express themselves to music with movement.
‘Explorers’ is a room for children aged 2 – 3. It is separated into two smaller areas, with a large, shared conservatory and garden access. Children can freely move around the areas, discovering the inspiring activities the team sets up each day. Here, children’s independence is encouraged, particularly at mealtimes when they serve themselves.
The Pre-school area for 3 – 4-year-olds is separated into four smaller rooms, allowing the children to explore something different in each area. They too have access to the conservatory which has the added benefit of allowing the children to free-flow between indoor and outdoor areas. Pre-school has three extracurricular classes delivered by early years professionals: a sports class held outside in our wonderful park, a drama class where they can express themselves, and a music and movement class.

“Having recently become a parent myself, I can honestly understand how difficult it is to choose the right childcare. We are here to make you and your family feel comfortable leaving your child with us, and we will ensure they have an amazing, fun-filled day while you work without worry.”
