Our nursery couldn’t be any more idyllic. Surrounded by acres of green fields, paddocks, woodlands, and farmland we are very lucky to have adventure and nature on our doorstep.
Based in a charming farmhouse, our nursery is the perfect setting for our outdoor-focused learning-environment centred around the importance of playing in nature, and we make full use of that each day.
At Little Green Rascals Flaxton we provide care for up to 60 children, each one benefiting from our unique approach that encourages exploration, curiosity, and a love for the great outdoors. With nature at our doorstep, we create meaningful experiences that inspire and educate children, helping them understand and respect their natural environment.
Being part of the Little Green Rascals ethos means that we strive to create a home-from-home environment, using natural, locally sourced, and organic products whenever possible—ensuring no added nasties in our food or skincare.
Our toys and resources are made from natural and sustainable materials, and even our electricity comes from an ethical supplier. It is our aim to deliver inspiring and educational activities that nurture a child’s confidence, communication, and relationships.
Although we’re tucked away in Flaxton, finding us is easy, as we’re close to the A64 between York and Malton. Our nursery is perfect for local families living nearby as well as those who commute to Leeds from York.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.

At Little Green Rascals Flaxton we have numerous extra clubs that enhance the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework. We also invite outside professionals to join us who provide additional sessions to our children.
Budding musicians can explore different instruments at our children’s nursery, as well as enjoying rhythmic games, and participating in interactive sing-along sessions. They’ll discover the joy of creating melodies, understanding beats, and expressing themselves through music. Each activity is carefully crafted to inspire a love for music and develop their auditory skills in a fun and engaging environment.
At Little Green Rascals Flaxton, our cooking sessions are a favourite among the children. They love rolling up their sleeves and getting hands-on in the kitchen. Whether they’re preparing healthy snacks or baking delightful treats, our little chefs learn valuable skills like measuring ingredients, counting, and following recipes.
These activities not only teach practical skills but also encourage teamwork and creativity. The excitement and pride they feel when they taste their own creations is truly heartwarming. It’s an enjoyable and educational experience that builds confidence and fosters a love for healthy eating.
Our Budding Movers program at Little Green Rascals Flaxton introduces children to the joy of music and movement. Led by experienced early years professionals, Rhythm Time and Heatbeeps classes incorporate a variety of musical instruments, sensory toys, puppets, and dance. These interactive sessions help develop key skills such as coordination, creativity, and self-confidence.
Children eagerly look forward to these classes, and parents often notice improvements in their children’s social and motor skills. The program is a fun and dynamic way for children to express themselves and stay active.
At Little Green Rascals Flaxton, our Budding Gardeners program instills a love for nature and the environment. Regardless of the weather, our young gardeners enjoy tending to the vegetable planters. They learn about plant growth cycles and get to experience the different tastes and textures of the produce they help cultivate.
These activities teach important lessons about environmental responsibility and sustainable gardening. Watching the children’s excitement as they harvest their crops is a joy, and these gardening experiences are something they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Our Budding Scientists program at Little Green Rascals Flaxton sparks curiosity and a sense of wonder in young minds. Through a variety of hands-on experiments and activities, children explore different materials and learn about the world around them. From creating imaginative potions to embarking on space-themed projects, our young scientists are always engaged and excited to discover new things.
These activities promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Parents love seeing the enthusiasm their children bring home, proudly sharing their discoveries and creations. It’s a fantastic way to nurture a lifelong passion for learning and exploration.
Budding Artists at Flaxton is a big hit with the children, and parents often tell us they prefer the mess on our nursery floor rather than their home carpets! These sessions include a variety of materials like paint, flour, leaves, playdoh, lentils, shredded paper, and glue, to name just a few.
We use all sorts of items that children love to explore, enhancing their creative development and fine motor skills. Our nursery is set up to support messy play, and we ensure everything is cleaned up and tidy before lunch.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is as much about the parent as it is for the child. commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. We aim to look after our parents as well as our children so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references.
Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area. For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.
At our nursery, we offer a three-week rotating menu that ensures variety and balance in every meal. We prepare breakfast, morning snacks, and afternoon snacks on site, ensuring freshness and quality.
We understand the importance of dietary preferences and needs, which is why we offer a separate vegetarian menu in collaboration with our caterers. Our goal is to meet all dietary requirements and provide a wholesome dining experience for every child.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.
When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person. We encourage our parents to view the new room too, and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
At Little Green Rascals Flaxton we believe in supporting smooth transitions for children as they prepare for school. We actively invite teachers from key primary schools to visit us, allowing the children to meet their new teachers in a familiar environment. This interaction helps build familiarity and comfort, easing the transition process.
Our dedicated team of key workers collaborates closely with teachers to share valuable insights about each child’s development stages and individual needs. This communication ensures continuity and supports personalised care and learning.
To further support our children and families, we offer transition sessions on-site where parents can actively participate and engage with the transition process. We also love to celebrate these important milestones with transition celebrations at the end of the summer term, marking the children’s growth and readiness for their next educational journey.

In Wiggly Worms, our youngest babies spend their days learning and exploring with sensory activities.
Developing good relationships is important at this age, and our staff are dedicated to helping you and your baby settle in comfortably.
In Dancing Dragonflies, children are encouraged to further their speech, language, and understanding skills. We promote creativity and imagination with daily messy play activities and focused topics that help uncover a knowledge and understanding of the world around them.
For our children aged 3 and above, the Little Green Rascals room offers support from an Early Years Teacher. Here, children are encouraged to develop into independent learners who are keen and ready for school.
With free-flow access at this age, we can spend all day long in our gardens, exploring and learning in the great outdoors!
Considering a nursery is a big decision for parents so we encourage all to come along to the Open Day to really get a feel for our setting. We have lots of activities and refreshments to keep everyone entertained. Parents can learn about the early years’ curriculum and our Brighter Learning Approach, and how we communicate about their child’s learning and progress, so they know what their children has learnt and enjoyed during the day.
