The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
Our location is at the heart of the Malvern community so we regularly watch the fire engines and ambulances coming and going and we love a visit to the pet store and close-by woodland area.
We hold numerous extra clubs throughout the week that enhance our Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework.
Our children love nothing more than when the team calls time for meal preparation or works with the children to produce a teatime dessert or baking morning.
The children learn so much in these activities including measuring, counting skills and following instructions.
Budding musicians can explore different instruments at our children’s nursery, as well as enjoying rhythmic games, and participating in interactive sing-along sessions.
They’ll discover the joy of creating melodies, understanding beats, and expressing themselves through music. Each activity is carefully crafted to inspire a love for music and develop their auditory skills in a fun and engaging environment.
At Malvern Nursery we have a qualified dance and P.E teacher visit our setting once a week for a structured class that gets us moving and practicing skills such as throwing and catching ready for primary school.
You will often find us in our woodland craft area working with natural resources such as sticks and mud or learning about plant lifecycles by planting our own produce.
Gardening and outdoor learning is really important to us at Little Oaks. You children will sometimes bring their seedlings home for your windowsills.
The children have lots of questions about the world around them, particularly living creatures and how they change.
Alongside bug hunting, each year we hatch ducklings and watch the lifecycle of caterpillars into butterflies; a much loved and important part of the curriculum.
We offer a baby club to local Malvern parents who are pregnant or have recently given birth to come along and meet other parents in a friendly and supportive environment.
Follow the Little Oaks Day Nursery Facebook page for the next available date and time.
The children love budding artists club. We use an array of different materials to produce art that gives the children a great sense of achievement.
Art creations or artistic impression via role-play follows many forms from acting out favourite books like The Snail and the Whale to using paint or brightly coloured beads to celebrate Elmer (the elephant) Day.

Our Willows unit is for our 3 months to 18-month-olds and is split across 2 rooms. We provide a homely environment and follow home routines to help your baby settle quickly.
Our focus here is on Personal, Emotional, Social and Physical Development using a range of age-appropriate toys. Babies have access to their own garden space without the concern about older children running around them.
Evergreen unit is from 18 months to 2.5 years and is split across 2 adjoining rooms which seamlessly free-flow out to their own sheltered garden.
Our focus is communication, language skills and independence skills as the toddlers explore the world around them.
Our children have access to lots of sensory activities, a link directly to the sensory room for quiet time and their own garden and planting area.
Sycamore unit children are 2.5 years – 3 years old and it is where we begin to look past the prime areas of development and branch out to the specific areas of the Early Years framework, preparing for pre-school.
Independence is encouraged so, for example, the children have access to a water station where they can self-serve themselves a drink of water when needed.
They also have access to their toilets/potty training area and the staff will support parents with this when they are ready.
Pre-School is for our 3–5-year-olds and is where our children are getting ready for their transition into primary school. The staff here focus on stretching the children to develop their own interests.
The large room is divided into cosy and small world play, messy play and sensory play. Our separate smaller classroom is for small groups with their Key Person for quieter focused learning.
Extra activities include dance club, sports club, cookery and gardening groups enabling the children to learn a variety of different skills.
