The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
Henley nursery offers a unique combination of clubs and enhancements to provide the very best in nursery care and education in the local area. The activities we engage in make the most of our rural location and focus on understanding and caring for the environment around us.
Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them. At our nursery they’re immersed into the world of Science through age appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.
Come rain or shine, we tend our vegetable plots, teaching the children about the different stages of growth cycles and exploring the different tastes and textures of the produce. As Budding gardeners, children learn about the environment and gain lifelong sustainable growing skills and enjoyment, which they will carry with them throughout their lives.
We have two Forest School areas at our Henley nursery, and we lucky to be surrounded by fields and woodland.
Nature itself is a teacher, so we pull on nature’s resources to learn about the seasons whilst using our extensive resources to learn about fire, wood and woodwork.
Henley staff are trained to follow The Old Station Nursery Forest School curriculum to ensure the best learning outcomes for your child.
In our Henley organic nursery the children learn about organic produce through cultivating and harvesting their own food.
We are partnered with SOIL Association and Food For Life, currently with a Bronze level which has been a significant first step towards improving our environment. The children eat organic food at least once a day.
Cookery enhancement means that the children follow a set curriculum, using child-safe equipment. Apart from the enjoyment derived from cooking, the children are also learning maths skills by measuring ingredients, listening skills by following instructions and team work.
Our parents love to see their children in their chefs’ hats and aprons as they whip-up their next delight.
We love to dance at Henley nursery. Each week we hold a dance class where the children learn to move or simply go with the flow, helping to build confidence and expression.
Messy Mornings is a firm favourite for the children and our parents tell us they would rather have the mess on our nursery floor rather than on the home carpet! These activities can include anything from paint to flour to leaves, playdoh, lentils, shredded paper and glue to name a few.
In essence, Messy Mornings uses items that the children love to get their hands on, bringing their creative development and fine motor skills to the fore.
Our nursery environments are designed to support messy play and we can easily tidy up, spik and span in time for lunch.
Alongside our dance class we love nothing more than exploring music and musical instruments which are important for children’s cognitive development.
Our external dance and music teacher comes to Henley once a week to engage with our Budding Musicians.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is just as much about the parent as it is for the child. The Old Station Nursery Henley commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and also via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. Our aim is to look after our parents as well as our children, so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references.
Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area.
For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.
Nutritious hot meals are prepared on-site at The Old Station Nursery Henley by our cook and menus are rotated every three weeks.
As an organic nursery our promise is that your child will have at least one organic meal a day and the produce is often grown by the children themselves.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact.
Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.
When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person.
We encourage our parents to view the new room too and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of The Old Station Nursery Henley is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.
We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies. Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework and within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities and enhancements that are suitable for their space.
At The Old Station Nursery Henley we offer three enhancements which sets our nursery apart from other providers; these are Forest School, Organic and Cookery. We hold open days where parents and carers are encouraged to come along to see our enhancements in action and meet other parents to build your own personal friendships and networks ahead of primary school.
The Old Station Nursery Henley commits to providing a simple fee structure so you can manage your nursery costs.
At this nursery we provide private and government funded sessions for eligible parents. Contact us for the nursery fee that is correct for your individual circumstances.
Babies start here in their own homely room, where they can play with soft play equipment, mirrors, musical instruments and variety of toys to help them learn.
Each baby follows their own individual routine with a focus on a calm, nurturing environment. Even our babies start to learn about organic food and they enjoy the cookery enhancement once a week.
Once our babies are confident on their feet, they will move to the Toddler Room where activities become more structured.
This room is bigger than the Baby Room allowing more freedom for our older babies to test their boundaries and capabilities with support from the team.
Activities here are both child-led and adult-led to help them develop. The adult-led activities include our organic and cookery enhancements.
More independence is encouraged in Toddler room from self-serving meals and learning about safety in their environment.
The toddlers are introduced to Forest School much to their delight! They love to grow their own vegetables and learn basic cookery.
Forest School is at the very heart of our Pre-schoolers’ day. They engage in outdoor learning every day, learning to be more independent and looking after their own environment and that of the environment around them. Once a week we venture up into the woods to explore our bigger world and how we live and work with nature.
The children learn about organic produce and cultivate their own, regularly cooking using child-safety knives, utensils and cool-touch ovens.
