My First Friends Rubery is a ‘family-feel’ nursery, set within the outskirts of Rednal in Rubery. We provide a number of flexible session days as well as no extra charges for food, consumables or extras to help our families with their budgeting.
Rubery nursery prides itself on its large spaces and stimulating environment, which has been carefully designed with the children in mind; including child friendly low-level windows, and tailor-made furniture. The setting is in close proximity to the village and has easy access and plenty of parking.
The open-plan environment has several age-appropriate rooms, each with easy access to the outdoor garden area where children can learn and grow in a natural environment. This design allows for an easy transition to other rooms, as well as providing an opportunity to strengthen the relationships between the children and nursery team.
As well as the indoor learning spaces, My First Friends Rubery offers a garden area, built with soft surfacing to ensure the children’s safety, as well as providing them with the opportunity to learn being surrounded by nature.
We have a growing area which is a huge hit with the children, as well as the usual bikes, trikes and outdoor equipment that you would expect. We regularly take walks in the Rednal area of Rubery in our nursery high-vis jackets where we spot interesting items on the way.
During half-term dates, we also run a holiday club for children aged four to eight years of age.
Please pop along for a tour of our nursery so you can see what the children enjoy on a daily basis.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
We hold a number of clubs at our Rubery nursery every week and activities for older children during the half-term holiday clubs.
Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them. At our nursery they’re immersed into the world of Science through age appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.
At our children’s nursery Budding Artists are encouraged to explore their creativity through activities such as painting, drawing, and crafts. With a host of resources available, children are encouraged to experiment with colours and textures, and create imaginative masterpieces that showcase their unique talents.
French language lessons are a part of our daily vocabulary. The children pick up the new sounds and words incredibly quickly and becoming confident in participating. This is a particularly important skill ready for our children as they progress to primary school.
We are always on the go at our nursery in Rubery. From moving to music to using all the outdoor equipment we learn to strengthen our bodies and basic throwing, catching and running skills in time for P.E lessons at school.
Part of our garden is a much-loved growing area which the children are very proud of. We cultivate our own seeds and watch our strawberries, carrots and tomatoes grow, ready to be prepared and eaten at snack time. The children learn a lot during the budding gardener sessions including teamwork and listening to and acting on instructions.
Every week we hold a music class with Jo Jingles where we explore instruments, songs and rhythm. The children grow in confidence and let off a little steam as they shake, sing and dance with their favourite puppet friend, Jo Jingles..
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is just as much about the parent as it is for the child.
My First Friends Nursery Rubery commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and also via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. Our aim is to look after our parents as well as our children, so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and the checking and training of all staff.
We have an onsite kitchen and a chef where all meals are cooked with fresh ingredients. We support with dietary requirements and religious preferences.
The children are encouraged to self-serve their food from age 2 upwards and use ceramic plates for meals, just like they would at home.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.
When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person.
We encourage our parents to view the new room too and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of My First Friends Nursery Rubery is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.
We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies.
Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework and within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities and enhancements that are suitable for their space.
At My First Friends Nursery has lots of extra activities including music, French lessons and gardening which help give our children and parents in Rubery the best nursery experience in the area.
My First Friends Rubery commits to providing a simple fee structure so you can manage your nursery costs.

Our room provides a warm and calming environment, ensuring each baby feels safe and secure in a home from home area. They develop at their own pace and explore lots of colours, textures, and patterns to encourage sensory play from the earliest years.
Once the babies are confident on their feet, they will move to the Toddler Room where activities become more structured.
Toddler room is big, bright and bold! Here our toddlers begin to become more independent and we watch and nurture their individual personalities as they come to the fore.
In our Toddler Rooms, we focus primarily on establishing the basis of the strong social-emotional skills which will carry the children through their time here and onwards. We build trust, self-confidence, and independence and support the growing awareness of other children.
The pre-school rooms have access to ICT equipment, which includes an interactive whiteboard for drawing, and playing educational games, to encourage and support all areas of learning and development.
Learning about the technological world is included as part of our Bespoke Learning Programme in addition to the Early Years Statutory Framework.
Our Rubery nursery children are confident and ready to transition to their next stage of learning at primary school.
