Our day nursery is set in a two-storey period property in the coastal town of Ramsgate. The Grange Montessori Nursery provides a home-from-home environment where children thrive. We welcome you to visit us for a tour, where you will discover our spacious rooms, equipped with age-appropriate resources that ignite curiosity and encourage a love of learning.
Our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery offers children a rich, enabling environment where qualified nursery practitioners passionately nurture and develop their unique personalities and characters. Our bright and airy rooms have high ceilings, and our large, secure garden is suitable for all ages and weather conditions. Together, these create a spacious environment for children to engage in hands-on learning and make creative choices, guided by our attentive Montessori teacher.
The main garden is equipped with resources to promote all areas of learning and risk-based play fostering a sense of adventure. These include a climbing frame, slide, and forest area, which allows children to explore the natural world. Our younger children have an area where they have a safe space to crawl and discover, including a large sandpit.
Children at our Ramsgate day nursery are urged to share different feelings and discuss them with their peers, fostering positive social, emotional, and mental health. Our Buddy Bench allows children to sit in a calm area to explore their emotions, where a peer or adult will join them, forging positive attachments and lasting friendships.
Our nursery has additional indoor space, separate from their usual room for physical activity, allowing all ages to develop their fine and gross motor skills. It includes equipment where children can climb, crawl and slide, large soft play blocks to help build coordination and a ball pool, all of which help them realise new ways to move and manipulate their bodies.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
At our Ramsgate nursery, we offer extracurricular classes including Yoga, Dance and Rugby Tots that enhance the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework. We use our outside area to hold many of these activities.
At our children’s nursery Budding Artists are encouraged to explore their creativity through activities such as painting, drawing, and crafts.
With a host of resources available, children are encouraged to experiment with colours and textures, and create imaginative masterpieces that showcase their unique talents.
Come rain or shine, we tend our vegetable plots, teaching the children about the different stages of growth cycles and exploring the different tastes and textures of the produce.
As Budding gardeners, children learn about the environment and gain lifelong sustainable growing skills and enjoyment, which they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Our children love nothing more than when the team calls time for meal preparation or works with the children to produce a teatime dessert or baking morning.
The children learn so much in these activities including measuring, counting skills and following instructions.
At The Grange Montessori Nursery, children discover the joy of music through sounds, rhythm, and song. Cognitive development and confidence build alongside gross motor skills and creativity as they express themselves using simple rhythm instruments and their bodies with large movements by performing actions to songs.
Musical movement games involve listening to and following directions, which is ideal for children preparing for their next chapter in education at school.
Our budding scientists participate in exciting experiments to nurture their natural curiosity and build problem-solving and communication skills.
A firm favourite is colour mixing, watching the effect of water on paper and combining baking soda, vinegar and soap.
Children encourage one another to take the next step and chatter excitedly about what they think the outcomes might be.
Energetic external coaches visit our nursery weekly to provide fun, structured play sessions that start children on a lifelong positive sporting journey. They are taught to catch, pass, kick, run with the ball, and play as part of a team, building self-esteem and confidence.
Yoga sessions involve group participation, promoting social interaction and communication skills. Physical strength, balance and coordination increase as practice different poses and build one confidence.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is as much about the parent as it is for the child.
The Grange Townsend Montessori Nursery commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and via digital updates on the parent App. We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care.
We aim to look after our parents as well as our children so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references.
Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area.
For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.
Delicious, nutrient-rich, balanced meals are delivered to our Ramsgate day nursery daily by an external provider, Zebedees.
All dietary, allergy, and cultural requirements are met, so no child ever misses out, and menus rotate with the seasons using fresh ingredients.
Wholesome breakfasts, snacks, and tea are freshly prepared on-site at the nursery.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact.
Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions. When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person.
We encourage our parents to view the new room too, and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of The Grange Townsend Montessori Nursery is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.
We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies. Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach to the Early Years Statutory Framework, our bespoke curriculum. Within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities, and enhancements suitable for their space.
Some of our clubs are delivered by external early years professionals who visit us at The Grange Townsend Montessori Nursery regularly. Children enjoy becoming Budding Movers, Budding Musicians, Budding Scientists and Budding Artists’ in a supportive environment.
We also hold open days where parents and carers are encouraged to come along and meet other parents to build their own personal friendships and networks ahead of primary school.
The Grange Townsend Montessori Nursery offers flexible childcare with several session options as well as private, part-funded and some fully funded places for eligible families.

We follow children’s routines from home to create a comfortable and reassuring environment in our baby room.
There is a focus on learning through sensory exploration, and babies can immerse themselves in a dedicated baby garden specially designed to stimulate their senses and encourage their natural curiosity.
Balancing and walking skills are safely supported with low-level furniture as children begin to take their first steps.
In our seahorse room, children can engage in small-world activities and role-play, such as creating picnics for dollies, pretending to cook for them, and mimicking actions they have seen in the world, which develops speech and language.
Free-flow play enables children to choose their activity based on their own interests.
As they grow and develop, children confidently transition to the turtle room, where they are supported by their dedicated key carer and introduced to the principles of the Montessori approach.
Children begin to develop their independence with a focus on establishing strong social-emotional skills and are given the opportunity to choose and prepare their own snacks, self-serve their own meals, and pour their own drinks.
Children still follow their own individual routines, with a slight structure forming during awake times such as circle time, during which they sing a good morning song, read a story, and sign nursery rhymes together.
In the Dolphins Room, there is more structure throughout the day. As children prepare for their transition to school, they are encouraged to practice their self-help skills to support their independence and self-esteem.
Activities are planned around topics of interest to the children, and our qualified teacher holds small focus group activities, which help the children listen and follow instructions.
We have strong ties with our local primary schools, which ensures the children’s next steps in their education are seamless.
