A purpose-built nursery fostering a sense of belonging for children of Kingsteignton

Our staff team takes the time to get to know all the children in our care at hdc Nursery Kingsteignton and ensures each child and their family feels safe, valued and supported, encouraging a lifelong love for learning.

We welcome you to tour the hygge-inspired rooms at our Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ nursery. These rooms allow children to rest, play, learn, and develop in a familiar space that promotes emotional well-being, togetherness, and friendship.

Nestled within the grounds of Kingsteignton School, our purpose-built nursery has ample outdoor spaces that promote an active lifestyle. Each of our rooms has its own outdoor space set up to provide a range of engaging activities to extend our learning environment. Children love the freedom to play outdoors as much as possible; a little rain never holds us back. We enjoy donning our wellies and puddle suits to jump and splash in puddles, describing how it feels and making mud pies and ‘potions’ in the mud kitchen.

We can often be seen out and about on adventures during visits to local playgrounds and Kingsteignton Library. Children enjoy listening to stories with the adults, sharing books with their peers and choosing what they would like to borrow. During our journeys, we take the time to listen to all the different sounds we hear and look for objects such as flowers, tractors, cars and trees.

Our enriched curriculum embedded into every nursery

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.

The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.

The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.

Clubs and enhancements at hdc Nursery Kingsteignton

Extra clubs throughout the week that enhance our Brighter Learning Approach which is our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework. Activities at our Kingsteignton nursery are often based around our outdoor space and local community where children learn about their natural surroundings.

Budding Scientists at Kingsteignton nursery

Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them. At our nursery they’re immersed into the world of Science through age appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.

Budding Gardeners at Kingsteignton nursery

Come rain or shine, we tend our vegetable plots, teaching the children about the different stages of growth cycles and exploring the different tastes and textures of the produce. As Budding gardeners, children learn about the environment and gain lifelong sustainable growing skills and enjoyment, which they will carry with them throughout their lives.

Budding Movers at Kingsteignton nursery

At our children’s nursery our Budding Movers dive into a variety of activities including dance, sports, and beyond.

These engaging experiences are adored by both children and practitioners, seamlessly integrating movement with structured learning to enhance coordination, build confidence, and foster a sense of joy at nursery.

Budding Musicians at Kingsteignton nursery

Children in each room at hdc Kingsteignton enjoy weekly music sessions with external providers Rhythm Time Torbay and South East Devon, where they engage in various multi-sensory activities exploring sound and movement to promote speech, language and physical development.

Budding Artists at Kingsteignton nursery

Children have a choice of resources and technology to develop their inner artist at hdc nursery Kingsteignton. Our interactive touch screen table encourages group play and learning to draw and mark-make directly onto the screen using hand and fingers to inspire learning and develop fine motor skills.

Traditional artistry and messy play are also encouraged with a variety of materials such as paint, natural elements, Play-Doh, shredded paper, and glue to explore all forms of arts and crafts.

Budding Chefs at Kingsteignton nursery

A firm favourite at our day nursery is cooking, and our budding chefs engage in conversation to discuss the ingredients needed for their recipes and where they come from before preparing shopping and equipment lists.

Following an opportunity to learn about personal hygiene and the importance of washing our hands, children listen to instructions and use their fine motor skills to weigh, measure and stir a mix of healthy snacks and treats to proudly take home.

Our promises at hdc Kingsteignton

Parent Communication

Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is as much about the parent as it is for the child. hdc Kingsteignton commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and via digital updates on the parent App.

We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. We aim to look after our parents as well as our children so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.

Safety First, Safety Always

Our excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references.

Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area. For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.

Nursery Mealtimes

At our Kingsteignton nursery, our cook prepares all our meals on-site. We cater to a number of dietary requirements and intolerances and carefully account for these during meal preparation and serving.

We rotate menus regularly and change them with the seasons to create variety and use the freshest ingredients. At mealtimes, we sit together in low-level chairs at the table, and children are assisted to pour their own drinks and clear plates away.

Key Person

Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.

When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person. We encourage our parents to view the new room too, and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.

Next Stop School

It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of hdc Nursery Kingsteignton is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.

We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies.

Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.

Nursery Activities

All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach to the Early Years Statutory Framework, our bespoke curriculum.

Within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities, and enhancements suitable for their space. Our unique home-from-home feel at hdc Kingsteignton gives children the confidence to try new things and develop their skills.

We also hold open days, where parents and carers are encouraged to come along and meet other parents to build their own personal friendships and networks ahead of primary school.

Fees and Funding

hdc Kingsteignton commits to providing a simple fee structure so you can manage your nursery costs.

At this nursery, we provide private and government-funded sessions for eligible parents. Contact us for the nursery fee that is correct for your individual circumstances.

A room for every stage of your child’s development

Orchard Room

For our youngest children, we provide a relaxing and stimulating space. The garden is easily accessible, and outdoor play is encouraged to support development. Taking an active approach to learning, babies can experiment with messy and sensory opportunities and use their natural curiosity to touch and feel to support brain development.

Open communication between nursery and home means we can follow your little one’s pace when new routines are introduced, including sleep and feed times.
