A Reggio-Emilia inspired day nursery in Wolverhampton

Welcome to Sandhills Day Nursery Wolverhampton, where we’re inspired by the innovative teaching methods of Reggio Emilia. Here, we see our children as everything from curious explorers to budding scientists, full of creativity and potential. Instead of just teaching, we join them as co-learners on their exciting educational journey.

At our nursery, we believe the environment—both indoors and outdoors—is just as vital as the teachers themselves. That’s why we offer a rich variety of real-life resources and experiences to help our children learn and grow every day.

Our purpose-built nursery, designed in 2019, is all about spacious, bright areas where children can play freely and learn naturally in an open environment with limited boundaries.

Outside, our large gardens provide unrestricted access for children aged two and up, while our littlest ones have their own special garden space to cater for their unique needs. Our outdoor classroom, nestled by fields, is a favourite spot for exploring and learning in a natural setting.

And of course, there’s more to our nursery than just children. At Wolverhampton we have two adorable pet rabbits, Hop-Hop and Ringo who are beloved members of our nursery family, often joining in indoor and outdoor activities. Families can even take them home on weekends, and we share their adventures with the children through our special Bunny Diary.

Our enriched curriculum embedded into every nursery

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.

The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.

The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.

Our promises at Sandhills Day Nursery Wolverhampton

Parent Communication

Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is as much about the parent as it is for the child.

Sandhills Day Nursery Wolverhampton commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and via digital updates on the parent App. We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care.

We aim to look after our parents as well as our children so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.

Safety First, Safety Always

First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references.

Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area. For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.

We ensure that the nursery is covered by CCTV and that access via the main entrance, and doors are locked at all times. Our Management Team supervise the main entrance foyer to let people in and out of the building.

Nursery Mealtimes

Our nursery provides meals prepared on-site by our dedicated chef and kitchen assistant. We offer children well-balanced, nutritious and delicious meals and rotate the menu on a three-week basis to keep variety.

For the older children, we ensure our mealtimes are social events, where children are encouraged to lay tables, serve themselves and help clean up afterwards – replicating what they might expect to do at home.

Key Person

Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.

When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person.

We encourage our parents to view the new room too, and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.

Next Stop School

It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of Sandhills Day Nursery Wolverhampton is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.

We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies. Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.

We have key links to local nursery schools such

where many of the children go of to after Pre-School.

Nursery Activities

All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework. Within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities, and enhancements suitable for their space.

Exploration and investigation are key focuses here, and messy sensory play is a regular and delightful part of the day!

What our Wolverhampton Nursery Manager says

“At our nursery, we take pride in creating a home-from-home environment where not only children, but parents too, feel settled and supported. We see parents as our partners in their child's journey, and involving them as much as possible is a priority for us.

Parents are a child's first educators, and we value the insights they bring. We encourage open communication and regular sharing of information, not only to deepen our understanding of each child but also to celebrate their achievements and provide support during challenges.”
