Purpose-built
Sunhill Day Nursery Royston is a bright, purpose-built, premium nursery offering two distinct learning enhancements for your child: organic growing and food and child-friendly cooking classes.
These important learning experiences for your child help to set our Royston apart from other local nurseries. They equip our children with advanced knowledge of the environment, sustainable living, and the steps involved in cooking their organic produce.
Sunhill Royston is a modern nursery, designed not only with regard to the environmental impact but with careful consideration to meet the needs of the children and families who attend the setting.
The nursery is equipped with age-appropriate resources inside and out to help children actively learn whilst developing independence. The children have free-flow access to the outdoor area, allowing them to discover the natural world and follow their curiosity, particularly around sustainable growing. We have five spacious rooms within the nursery, each equipped with carefully thought-out resources.
Please come along for a personal tour to see how your child can have the best nursery experience in Royston.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
Royston nursery offers a unique combination of clubs and enhancements to provide the very best in nursery care and education in the local area. The activities we engage in make the most of our interest in caring for the environment and the world around us.
Come rain or shine, we tend our vegetable plots, teaching the children about the different stages of growth cycles and exploring the different tastes and textures of the produce.
As Budding Gardeners, children learn about the environment and gain lifelong sustainable growing skills and enjoyment, which they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them.
At our nursery they’re immersed into the world of Science through age appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.
In our Royston organic nursery, children learn about organic produce through cultivating and harvesting their own food such as spring onions, strawberries, carrots, potatoes and tomatoes.
We are partnered with the SOIL Association and Food For Life, currently with a Bronze level, which has been a significant first step towards improving our environment. The children eat organic food at least once a day, often grown by themselves.
Cookery enhancement means that the children follow a set curriculum, using child-safe equipment. Apart from the enjoyment derived from cooking, the children are also learning maths skills by measuring ingredients, listening skills by following instructions and team work.
Our parents love to see their children in their chefs’ hats and aprons as they whip-up their next delight. Homemade pizza is a favourite.
Each week, we hold a dance class where the children learn to move or simply go with the flow, helping to build confidence and expression.
Rugby and multi-sport early years professionals come to our Royston nursery to show the children the enjoyment of ball skills and activities they will enjoy in P.E class at primary school.
Messy Mornings is a firm favourite for the children and our parents tell us they would rather have the mess on our nursery floor rather than on the home carpet!
These activities can include anything from paint to flour to leaves, playdoh, lentils, shredded paper and glue to name a few.
In essence, Messy Mornings uses items that the children love to get their hands on, bringing their creative development and fine motor skills to the fore. Our nursery environments are designed to support messy play and we can easily tidy up in time for lunch.
Alongside our dance class we love nothing more than exploring music and musical instruments which are important for children’s cognitive development.
Our external dance and music teacher comes to Royston to engage with our budding musicians.
We invite external groups to our nursery to introduce us to different animals.
Zoolab is a wonderful agency who bring along their small creepy-crawlies like millipedes and cockroaches, slow moving tortoises and friendly frogs.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is just as much about the parent as it is for the child.
Sunhill Day Nursery Royston commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and also via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. Our aim is to look after our parents as well as our children, so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and the checking and training of all staff.
Our cook prepares nutritious hot meals on-site at Sunhill Day Nursery in Royston, and menus are rotated every three weeks.
As an organic nursery our promise is that your child will have at least one organic meal a day and the produce is often grown by the children themselves.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.
When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person.
We encourage our parents to view the new room too and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of Sunhill Day Nursery Royston is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.
We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies.
Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework and within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities and enhancements that are suitable for their space.
At Sunhill Day Nursery Royston we offer two enhancements which sets our nursery apart from other providers; these are Organic and Cookery.
We hold open days where parents and carers are encouraged to come along to see our enhancements in action and meet other parents to build your own personal friendships and networks ahead of primary school.
Sunhill Day Nursery Royston commits to providing a simple fee structure so you can manage your nursery costs.
At this nursery we provide private and government funded sessions for eligible parents. Contact us for the nursery fee that is correct for your individual circumstances.
Our baby room is called Twinkle Stars, and it is where babies stay until they are confidently walking. They have their own homely room, where they can play with soft play equipment, mirrors, musical instruments and a variety of toys to help them learn.
Each baby follows their own individual routine with a focus on a calm, nurturing environment. Here, we work on forming bonds, communicating, and elearning a language.
This room is bigger than the Baby Room allowing more freedom for toddlers to test their boundaries and capabilities with support from the team.
Activities here are both child-led and adult-led to help them develop of which the adult-led activities include our organic and cookery enhancements. In our toddler rooms the children start to learn independence and are encouraged to do more for themselves. They also start to work on turn-taking and sharing.
In Pre-school the children are getting ready for school so will be able to use the toilet independently, use cutlery and put their coats and shoes on by themselves.
In all rooms the activities are based around the child’s own interests and staff work closely with parents to develop next steps. As an organic-enhanced nursery, the children learn about organic produce and cultivate their own, regularly cooking using child-safety knives, utensils and cool-touch ovens.
Considering a nursery is a big decision for parents so we encourage all to come along to the Open Day to really get a feel for our setting. We have lots of activities and refreshments to keep everyone entertained. Parents can learn about the early years’ curriculum and our Brighter Learning Approach, and how we communicate about their child’s learning and progress, so they know what their children has learnt and enjoyed during the day.
