Outdoor learning
Located in the market town of Waterlooville, Queenswood Lodge day nursery is set within a converted family home that has been refurbished into a modern nursery with abundant indoor and outdoor space for children to take their first steps into education through exploration and discovery.
The nursery has three light, open-plan rooms carefully designed for the children to become independent learners, supported with plenty of natural resources and furniture to encourage children to manage their own learning and development. We encourage you to come and visit to tour the nursery and meet our experienced nursery practitioners who provide a safe and caring atmosphere at our Ofsted ‘Good’ rated nursery.
We use our spacious gardens at our Waterlooville children’s nursery daily in which the children love to explore our sand pit, stone pit, slide and tunnel. We venture outside, whatever the weather, which enables children to learn about changes in seasons and the environment around them.
At Queenswood Lodge, we take a keen interest in learning the life cycles of animals and plants and build on children’s natural curiosity by introducing planters to grow herbs and vegetables and appropriate tools to our garden with educational books for further discovery. We are fortunate to be located a short walk from the Queens Enclosure woodlands, which allows us to use this 100-acre woodland for captivating adventures and to learn about tree species and wildlife outside of the nursery.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
We are fortunate to have such a fantastic outdoor area, and many of our activities at our Waterlooville nursery are based on our outdoor space and local environment.
We also hold numerous extra clubs throughout the week that enhance our Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework.
Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them.
At our nursery they’re immersed into the world of Science through age appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.
Budding musicians can explore different instruments at our children’s nursery, as well as enjoying rhythmic games, and participating in interactive sing-along sessions.
They’ll discover the joy of creating melodies, understanding beats, and expressing themselves through music. Each activity is carefully crafted to inspire a love for music and develop their auditory skills in a fun and engaging environment.
At our children’s nursery our Budding Movers dive into a variety of activities including dance, sports, and beyond.
These engaging experiences are adored by both children and practitioners, seamlessly integrating movement with structured learning to enhance coordination, build confidence, and foster a sense of joy at nursery.
At our children’s nursery Budding Artists are encouraged to explore their creativity through activities such as painting, drawing, and crafts.
With a host of resources available, children are encouraged to experiment with colours and textures, and create imaginative masterpieces that showcase their unique talents.
Babies and pre-schoolers alike enjoy measuring and mixing to bake delicious cakes and biscuits at Queenswood Lodge children’s nursery, where they build confidence and practice listening to instructions to weigh and measure ingredients.
Children explore healthy alternatives, too, and from an early age, they are educated to safely cut, scoop, and prepare snacks of vegetables and fruit while developing fine motor skills.
Donning wellies and coats if the weather dictates, children thrive in our outdoor environment and participate in planting, nurturing and harvesting herbs and vegetables in the garden.
Children are provided with appropriate tools and watering cans and are encouraged to choose which seeds to plant. Staff provide instruction and share knowledge on how best to plant and take care of them using a variety of activities and resources to discuss lifecycles, with children gaining a lifelong understanding of respecting the environment.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is as much about the parent as it is for the child.
Good Manors Day Nursery Queenswood Lodge commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. We aim to look after our parents as well as our children so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references.
Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area.
For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.
Our in-house chef freshly prepares nutritious meals on-site using seasonal ingredients for variety. We cater to varying diet requirements and preferences and have robust procedures in place for children with food allergies. We are proud to maintain a 5-star food hygiene rating from the Food Standards Agency.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions. When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person. We encourage our parents to view the new room too, and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering of Good Manors Day Nursery Queenswood Lodge is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey.
We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies. Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework. Within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities, and enhancements suitable for their space.
Good Manors Day Nursery Queenswood Lodge offers flexible childcare with several session options as well as private, part-funded and some fully funded places for eligible families.

We work with families to ensure that the children’s routines reflect those at home, and we have a quiet area for nap times so that sleep isn’t disturbed.
We have a variety of resources at Queenswood Lodge nursery, such as soft play mats, mirrors, and musical instruments suitable for all ages and stages so that with gentle encouragement from our experienced team, children can develop at their own pace.
Messy play is a firm favourite for our baby room and allows the opportunity for our youngest children to explore and discover their senses.
In our Tweenie room, we provide a welcoming environment where we focus on supporting children’s expression, resilience and emotional management, and activities become more structured with plenty of resources to support them.
We develop independence by encouraging children to wash their own hands, self-serve drinks and meals, and eat with forks and knives instead of spoons to develop fine motor skills.
Our experienced practitioners support and guide with toilet training alongside children and parents when they are ready, and we continue to follow routines from home.
School readiness is our focus in our Waterlooville pre-school room, and children are supported in preparing for their next step in education.
Children enjoy independence and the feeling of accomplishment from completing a task independently, including self-registration upon arrival, getting dressed on their own and taking themselves to the toilet. Structured activities encourage listening and following instructions, and children recognise their names and enjoy learning to write them out. We encourage the children to make positive choices to help prepare them for later life in child-led and structured adult-led activities.
We regularly contact local schools to understand their expectations of each new intake of children. We invite them to visit and meet the children in the nursery, and we plan visits to schools for children to get a sense of their new surroundings beforehand.
The new funding term is starting again in January and it’s important to understand the different kinds of funded childcare available to you and when you need to apply before the deadline closes on 30th November.
We have online experts who are on hand to answer any questions you may have via a web chat service, whether you’re a new or existing nursery parent.
