Encouraging families to be involved

Research shows that involving parents and carers in their children’s learning is the most important factor in enabling some children to do well regardless of background. Working in partnership with parents and carers is central to the early years foundation stage (EYFS).

We believe that children benefit the most when parents and staff work together in partnership to ensure quality care and learning for the children. The nursery team welcomes parents as partners and this relationship needs to be built on trust and understanding.

At The Old Station Nursery Group, relationships with 'Our Families' matter, and is one of our core key values. Through effective partnerships and strong communication, we unite our early years expertise with our family's expert knowledge of their children; to strive for the very best outcomes for all children.

Communicating with parents

Providing opportunities for our families to become involved in their children's learning and development is extremely important to us.

The Old Station Nursery Group involves parents and carers from the very beginning transition period, along the way from induction, settling in, and daily chats, to sharing of resources, social events and information sessions.

Our nurseries work hard to continue strengthening communication, ensuring barriers such as separation, language, culture, and different values are evaluated before your child starts nursery.

Every child within our nursery settings, are assigned a 'key person' who focuses specifically on their day and the progress they are making, ready to inform families with updates through our parent app, monthly newsletter, and face to face conversations.

Sharing Information

Within our nurseries, our families take pride in being involved in their children's learning.

We often share with our families: photos, videos, pieces of work, and descriptions of what activities their child took part in. It is important that we, as carers, are able to support parents in an open and sensitive manner. A two-way sharing of information is key to this. We believe that an open access policy is the best way of encouraging participation.

'Our People' use these requests as an opportunity to strengthen relationships with families, further learning more about each child and the best way to enhance their learning and development.

Our parent partnerships work better when information is shared and communicated via both parties. Your observation of your child at home is helpful to share with us during your settling in sessions. This is so that we can adapt and provide what it is that is needed to bring comfort and confidence to your little one.

Our people continue to encourage our families to share any observations, photos, and videos throughout the children's time with us. This is to allow us to strengthen our understanding of each child, enabling our teams to extend learning through their interests and experiences when they are not at nursery.

Stay updated via the Parent App

At The Old Station Nursery Group, most of our nurseries are using the ParentZone app to keep you up to date about your child’s learning and development. Although some of our nurseries use a slightly different app, it functions in a similar way to ParentZone.

On the parent app, parents are able to access information about their child’s day at a time that suits them best. Our parent app helps to increase partnership with parents by allowing two-way communication between parents and your nursery.

Our teams regularly update the app to provide parents with regular updates on your child and all the exciting activities they’ve been getting up to. Further details on ParentZone (or the relevant parent app) are shared with parents before starting at nursery.
