The children at Good Manors Day Nursery Queenswood Lodge had a fun-filled Road Safety Week, creating their own cars, traffic lights, and zebra crossings while learning important road safety lessons.
Last week, the children at Good Manors Day Nursery Queenswood Lodge took part in Road Safety Week, with age-appropriate activities across all rooms to teach the children important lessons about road safety.
In the Baby Room, the little ones explored a road set up in their garden, while also creating their own traffic lights using red, orange, and green playdough. This interactive activity helped them understand the basic concept of traffic signals. The Tweenies had a fantastic time using their imagination to create their very own car! After selecting their favourite paints, the children worked together to decorate it, and it soon became a favourite for pretend play.
Meanwhile, in Pre-School, the children designed their own zebra crossing and road for their exploration area. The road became a focus table, evolving throughout the week as the children added to it. They also made their own traffic lights and stop/go signs, learning that red means stop and green means go. The children delighted in telling each other to “STOP” and “GO!” throughout the week. They also talked about Zebra crossings and Lollipop people, understanding their important role in helping people safely cross the road.
Throughout the week, we heard some fantastic language from the children, such as: “You can’t go yet” “You need to hold hands when you cross the road.”
These activities helped reinforce the importance of road safety in a fun and engaging way! If you’d like to learn more about our nursery and about what else we get up to during our days, book a tour online here.
