Children at The Old Station Nursery on Mottershead Drive were treated to a special visit from Cody and Georgina, Police Officers for Tewkesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team (Gloucestershire Constabulary) to support their learning about the local community.
On Monday 9th October, Cody and Georgina visited the nursery, starting with an explanation of who they were and what their job entailed of. They kindly brought in uniform for the children to try on, and the children were delighted to watch the police car blue lights get turned on. The children were even lucky enough to be able to sit in the police truck.
Cody and Georgina were also helped by PC Paws, who has recently been introduced across all nurseries in The Old Station Nursery Group as the Health and Safety Mascot. PC Paws is designed to encourage the children to develop skills in recognising, judging and managing risks safely, through taking part in positive play experiences and opportunities.
Nursery Manager of The Old Station Nursery Mottershead Drive Chloe Rosser commented on the event.
“It was lovely to welcome Georgina and Cody to Mottershead Drive. Following on from the children’s interest in emergency services, it was the perfect opportunity to extend their knowledge on our community, people who keep us safe and enhance their understanding of the world. A very big thank you to them both for providing such an engaging session.”
Nurseries across The Old Station Nursery Group take great pride in the community- by helping children to understand the world they live in, they are better able to navigate it, make informed decisions, and be active and engaged citizens. Visits such as these are a regular occurrence across the settings, to help introduce children to their local community and its importance.
