Nov 12, 2025
Today marks an extra-special occasion for Sarah Steel, Founder of The Old Station Nursery - she attended her investiture ceremony to officially receive her Order of the British Empire (OBE). Even more fittingly, the ceremony falls on Sarah’s birthday, making the day a truly memorable double celebration.
Sarah was awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours 2025 for her exceptional contribution to the Early Years sector, recognising her lifelong dedication to improving the lives of young children and their families through high-quality early education.
Having founded The Old Station Nursery in 2002, Sarah’s vision has always been to create nurturing environments where children can thrive, and where families feel supported and connected. Under her leadership, the group has grown across the UK while remaining true to those founding values.
Reflecting on her award when it was announced in June, Sarah said:
“I am incredibly proud and deeply humbled to be awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours. I’m especially grateful to the NDNA for nominating me – this recognition truly reflects the dedication of so many amazing people I’ve had the privilege to work alongside over the years. I feel immensely lucky to be part of such a passionate and impactful sector, and to be able to help shape the lives of children and families across the country.”
Sarah’s recognition is not only a personal achievement but also a celebration of the Early Years community she continues to inspire.
All of us at The Old Station Nursery are immensely proud of Sarah and look forward to celebrating this special moment with her. Congratulations, Sarah, and happy birthday!
