Residents at Care UK’s Chocolate Works Care Home in York were delighted to spend a joyful day with children from Little Green Rascals Bishopthorpe, enjoying games, stories, and intergenerational fun.
Residents at Care UK’s Chocolate Works Care Home on Bishopthorpe Road were treated to a special day filled with fun, laughter, and youthful energy when children from Little Green Rascals nursery came to visit.
The visit was packed with activities designed to bring generations together. Children and residents joined in with games such as bean bag and hoop toss, while storytelling, singing, and drawing encouraged creativity and conversation.
Books including Room on the Broom and The Very Hungry Caterpillar proved popular as residents read aloud to their young visitors, sparking plenty of smiles and laughter.
Tony, a 79-year-old resident, shared: “I love when the school children come to visit. It reminds me of when my children were little. I’ve kept the drawings they gave to me and put them on the wall in my room.”
Judy Wray, home manager at Chocolate Works, said: “Having the children from Little Green Rascals pop in for a visit was a wonderful surprise for residents. Intergenerational relationships have proven to be enriching for both young and older people, as they provide an opportunity to learn from each other. It was brilliant to see beautiful friendships forming between the residents and the children.”
Following the success of the visit, Chocolate Works Care Home now plans to welcome the children every six weeks – ensuring plenty more opportunities for residents and children to share laughter, stories, and memories together.
