Our enriched curriculum embedded into every nursery

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.

The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.

The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.

Our promises at WASPS

Parent Communication

We know how important it is to feel connected to your child’s day. At our Breakfast and After School Club, we’ll always take a moment to share how your child’s been – whether it’s a quick chat at pick-up or a message through the parent app.

We’re here if you ever want to talk or have questions about anything – big or small. Our aim is to support families as well as children, so you can head into your day or evening feeling reassured.

Safety First, Safety Always

Your child’s safety is our top priority. Our club is based on the school site, which means we benefit from secure entry systems and gated access. Only authorised adults can collect children, and all staff are fully vetted with enhanced DBS checks and references.

Our team is trained in key areas including safeguarding, paediatric first aid, and behaviour support, and we encourage ongoing training to keep our standards high. You can feel confident knowing your child is safe, well cared for, and in familiar surroundings.

Nursery Mealtimes

We provide a light, healthy breakfast in the morning, including options like fruit, cereal, and toast. In the afternoon, children are offered a variety of snacks to keep them going after a busy day at school.

Key Person

Children are welcomed by a consistent and caring team, led by our club supervisor, Sophie. She gets to know each child and helps make sure everyone feels included and supported. At times, familiar teaching assistants from the school also join us, which helps create a smooth transition between the school day and club.

We aim to build positive relationships with every child and are always here to chat if you have any questions or want to share anything about your child’s needs.

Part of the School Day

As a club based within the school, we’re in a unique position to offer children a familiar and seamless experience from the classroom into the club setting. We work closely with the school and its staff to provide a relaxed, fun environment where children can unwind, play, and feel at home.

We’re here to support families too – whether it’s through regular updates, a friendly chat at pick-up, or simply being a consistent part of your child’s school-day routine.

Extra Curricular Activities

Our club offers a wide range of activities, both indoors and outdoors. Children have access to the school playground and field, giving them plenty of space to run, explore, and play games with friends.

We make the most of the school’s outdoor resources, whether it’s for organised group games, free play, or winding down with a quieter activity in the fresh air. Indoors, there’s a mix of creative, construction, and role-play resources to keep things varied and fun.

A club setting that inspires developmental fun

Club room

Our Club room is dedicated to providing a vibrant and stimulating environment for children aged 4-11 years old during our after-school and breakfast club sessions. The room is designed to cater to the diverse interests and energy levels of this age group, offering a variety of activities that ensure every child finds something they love. In the Club room, children can engage in creative arts and crafts, where they can let their imaginations run wild with painting, drawing, and various DIY projects. For those who enjoy physical activity, we have space for interactive games and team sports that promote teamwork and healthy exercise.

We also offer a cosy corner for reading and quiet time, equipped with a selection of books that cater to different reading levels and interests. Additionally, our Club room features a range of educational toys and puzzles that challenge young minds and encourage problem-solving skills.Digital activities are also available, with supervised access to computers and tablets for educational games and learning apps. We ensure a balanced mix of screen time and hands-on activities to keep children engaged and learning in a fun way.

Our dedicated staff are always on hand to guide and support the children, ensuring they have a safe and enjoyable experience. Whether they’re starting their day with us at breakfast club or winding down after school, the Club room is a place where children can make friends, explore new interests, and develop lifelong skills.

What our Watlington Supervisor says

“We offer a fun and relaxing Club for before and after-school, which allows the children to play, eat and complete any homework they have, in a homely environment that they enjoy. They are the first to tell us what they want to do, and we try and give them an enjoyable space to unwind.”
