At The Old Station Nursery, we believe in the power of community, connection, and contribution—not only in the way we care for children, but also in how we support the wider world around us. We know that acts of kindness and volunteering aren’t just good for our communities—they’re also powerful tools for improving mental health, boosting well-being, and strengthening teams.
We’re proud to offer all employees a Volunteering Day, designed to empower every member of our team to give back to the causes that matter most to them. This policy reflects our commitment to creating a workplace where people feel supported, valued, and connected to a bigger purpose.
Our nurseries have long supported a wide range of fundraising events and local causes – from community food banks to children’s charities. Our Volunteering Policy is a natural extension of this spirit, giving our team dedicated time to contribute to causes close to their hearts. Together, we’re building something bigger than a nursery group – we’re building a culture of care, compassion, and contribution.
Our Volunteering Days complement our partnership with Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, which provides essential support to families with seriously ill children. We’re proud to stand alongside their vital work and encourage our team to get involved through volunteering activities.
Every employee across The Old Station Nursery is entitled to:
One paid day per year to volunteer with a charity or community initiative of their choice.
The freedom to support a local or national cause they feel passionate about.
The opportunity to connect with others, develop new skills, and make a meaningful impact.
“This policy is about more than giving our teams time—it’s about empowering them to make a difference. We want every team member to feel connected to their community and know they’re contributing to something truly meaningful—whether that’s through volunteering with our incredible partners at the Rainbow Trust, or with a cause that’s close to their own heart. The scientific literature has repeatedly shown that acts of kindness and volunteering are strongly associated with improved mental health, overall well-being, and even better health outcomes over the long term.’’
