At Choochoos Day Nursery Canterbury, we’ve been embracing the autumn season with lots of fun, hands-on activities that spark creativity and learning. This week, the children had a fantastic time exploring pumpkins and diving into fireworks-themed activities. From sensory play to creative crafting, it’s been an exciting time full of exploration!

The children loved getting their hands into the pumpkins, investigating the textures, shapes, and sizes. This simple yet engaging activity provided plenty of opportunities for them to develop their understanding of the world, learning about the autumn harvest and the many ways pumpkins are used. They were also able to practise their communication skills as they described what they were feeling, saw, and discovered during their pumpkin exploration.

Alongside our pumpkin activities, we took inspiration from the children’s discussions about their fireworks experiences with family and friends. Many of the children had attended local fireworks displays, and they were eager to share what they had seen and heard. In response, we created a variety of fireworks-themed activities that allowed the children to explore colours, sounds, and movements—helping them express their feelings and emotions through art and play. The activities also provided great opportunities for developing early language skills as the children discussed the colours, shapes, and sounds of fireworks.

A big thank you to all the families who joined in with our Autumn Craft session! It was wonderful to see parents and children working together to create beautiful seasonal decorations. These moments of collaboration not only strengthen the connection between home and nursery but also allow the children to share their creativity and excitement with their families.

At Choochoos, we’re committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can learn, explore, and develop through hands-on experiences. This week’s activities were a perfect example of how we blend learning with fun, helping children grow in a well-rounded, joyful way.
