Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is just as much about the parent as it is for the child. This nursery commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and also via digital updates on the parent App. We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. Our aim is to look after our parents as well as our children, so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references. Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area. For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.
When it’s time to eat, we all sit together with the children – just as you might do at home, as a family. For us, mealtimes are about more than nutritious food (although that is incredibly important). They are a time to swap stories, strengthen bonds, and deepen relationships – to feed your child emotionally and physically, as well as supporting children’s language and communication skills.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions. When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person. We encourage our parents to view the new room too and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering at our nurseries is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey. We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies. Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach, our carefully crafted and bespoke version of the Early Years Statutory Framework. This approach ensures that every child receives a well-rounded and enriching experience tailored to their developmental needs. In addition to this, each nursery has the flexibility to incorporate a variety of extra clubs, activities, and enhancements, thoughtfully selected to complement the unique qualities of their environment and the interests of the children. This allows us to create a vibrant, dynamic learning atmosphere that promotes curiosity, creativity, and individual growth.
Our nurseries commit to providing a simple fee structure so you can manage your nursery costs. At our settings, we provide private and government-funded sessions for eligible parents. Contact your chosen nursery for further information about fees and funding.

Incredibly friendly and supportive staff, child absolutely loves her time there and can't get enough. Really seen a positive development in our child since starting, a massive increase in confidence and independence, especially with other children. Overall really satisfied with this nursery and everyone involved. We love getting updates through the app as well, seeing her progress each time she goes. Child is incredibly happy when she goes and feels welcome and confident enough to be left there all day.
Our little one really enjoys her days at nursery. Since starting, the staff have made her feel safe and happy and we have seen her really come on developmentally. We get regular daily updates on the app and can see all the fun learning experiences she is exposed to. The staff are extremely approachable and happy to help and answer our queries however they can. Thank you for being such a wonderful team and taking care of our little one so well!

Earlier this month (March 2023), the government announced that in the coming years, there will be some additions to the funding available to parents across the UK. They announced that:
The government is yet to announce any further detail, however, when they do so, we will be able to share further information about how and when parents may be able to take advantage of these additional funded sessions.
Teaching and learning at The Old Station Nursery Group centres around the individual child; what they love and what motivates them to learn. All nurseries in England must follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.
At The Old Station Nursery, we use the EYFS guidance and our own Brighter Learning Approach to deliver a rich and meaningful curriculum, tailored to meet the individual needs of all children.
When to apply for nursery will depend on your own and your child’s circumstances, however it is never too early. We sometimes receive applications from parents before their child is born. We recommend reserving your child’s place as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Reserve your child’s place by completing an online form.
Our personalised tours provide an in-depth look at our facilities, an introduction to our wonderful nursery teams, and a way for you to see and hear more about our Brighter Learning Approach to learning. Most importantly, you will be able to experience the atmosphere of our nursery first-hand. Your local team will be available during the tour to address any concerns and to discuss your child’s specific needs. Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition for your child and to create a welcoming and comforting environment from the beginning.
During the settling in sessions, we will endeavour to find out as much as possible about your child, the support they might need and how we can best meet their individual needs. Each of our settings has a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator), who has received additional specialist training. Our teams will also work closely with external professionals and agencies, and in partnership with families, to ensure your child has all the support they need. We also have staff in our teams who are undertaking Level 3 qualifications in SEND.
