Wombourne March News: Dancing, Mark Making and Outdoor Learning

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

This month has been a busy one with various celebrations and national learning days! We have welcomed back some more children who have been at home with their siblings whilst they have been off school. It’s lovely to see all of you back with us! We have also welcomed some new babies to our baby room who are settling in really well and developing relationships with the staff team and their new friends. Welcome all!

March news

This month, the children took part in British Science Week which was lots of fun. The children took part in lots of interactive and exciting experiments, from sinking and floating activities to making rainbows with skittles by pouring water onto them. They also enjoyed World Book Day this month with so many of the children and staff arriving at nursery dressed as their favourite story characters. Thank you to everyone who donated towards raising money for Red Nose Day – a fun filled red day was had by all!

In March, the Babies have enjoyed the Spring sunshine whilst playing in the outdoor area. They have listened to the sounds that they could make with the musical instruments and enjoyed using the wooden spoons to make loud noises whilst banging them on the saucepans in the mud kitchen. The older babies have enjoyed making marks in the paint by pushing the cars along the paint in the tray and then making markon paper. The tuff tray was used to set the scene of the children’s favourite book ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. The babies enjoyed exploring the different textures such as twigs, pine cones, grass and leaves.

This month, the Toddlers have enjoyed developing their physical and gross motor skills by taking part in music and movement activities including dancing along to the sticky kids CD. The older Toddlers painted portrait pictures of their Mums and other special people in their lives, to celebrate Mother’s Day. For St Patrick’s Day, the children used peppers and paint to create clover pictures and patterns.

The Pre-school children used their fine motor skills to thread different shaped pasta on to string to make a necklace this month. The children decorated and designed their own necklaces by choosing which pasta, paint and materials to use. We have also celebrated a few birthdays in Pre-school this month! To celebrate, the children made cakes at nursery and sang Happy Birthday!

All of the children have enjoyed making the most of the Spring sunshine by exploring the outdoor area daily. The Toddlers had a picnic tea outside and the Pre-school children have been making sure that their flowers have been watered daily.

What’s coming up in April

April is National Pet Month! Please do send us photographs of your beautiful pets via EYlog, if you have one, so that we can talk about your pets at nursery.

We would like to hold our annual Easter Bonnet competition but with restrictions in place, we will be doing this event remotely. If you would like to take part in the Easter Bonnet competition, please send a photograph of your creation via EYlog by Thursday 1st April. There will be a prize for the most creative bonnet in each room and a little treat for everyone too!

On Friday the 23rd April, we will be celebrating St George’s Day. The children will be participating in lots of fun activities including making flags, decorating biscuits and lots more!

The week commencing the 26th April, we will be taking part in National Gardening Week. The children will be planting some beautiful flowers in our new train planter.

Other important information

Please be reminded that nursery will be closed on Good Friday (2nd April) and Easter Monday (5th April).

Congratulations and well done to Kiera who has completed her Level 3 childcare qualification! We would also like to welcome Frankie to our team. Frankie has her Level 3 childcare qualification and has joined the staff team as a bank member of staff.

Laura, who is our SENCO at the setting, has recently started her makaton training. Laura will be cascading the training to all of the staff team and we aim to begin using makaton in all rooms within the nursery soon. We aim to focus on one makaton sign per week and, of course, we will inform all parents so you can join in at home too.

We recently had our food safety inspection and we are really pleased to announce that we received top marks of 5. Well Done to Lynda, our Nursey Cook!

As many of you may have noticed, the refurbishment work within the nursery is coming on nicely with all of the rooms now freshly painted. We look forward to when we are able to show you the beautiful new rooms in person!

We are posting lots of content on the group social media channels. If you have Facebook and Instagram, please do follow us so that you can keep up to date with all the fun things we get up to during the week. Follow us by clicking here for Facebook or here for Instagram.

Thank you all for your continued support.
