Wombourne July News: Sunflowers, Careers and Ice Lollies

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

What a lovely month we have had! We would like to give a warm welcome to all our new families who have started with us – Welcome to the Sandhills family. We have had such a busy July and our children have taken full advantage of the wonderful weather we have been having. They have really enjoyed playing outside, and making the most of the sunshine, with plenty of water play to stay cool!

July news

Our Babies in Mr Small’s have had a fantastic time playing with the water, they have enjoyed using their hands and feet to make lots of splashes! The Babies loved to fill different containers with the water and were entertained by the falling water when they tipped the containers upside down!

Our older babies in Mr Mischief’s have loved helping their practitioners water the plants outside, especially our sunflowers, and have shown control when pouring the water from the watering can. Our sunflowers are getting very tall! Mr Mischief’s have been getting creative and experimenting with different types of media to create their ‘Oh What a Mess’ display to show the importance of getting messy and how it contributes to their learning and development.

The children in Mr Bump’s have recently taken an interest in the fairy-tale classic ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ and have been painting their own pictures to represent different parts from their favourite story. As it has been so warm, to cool down the children have been exploring ice during play and have been talking about how the ice melts when they hold it and how cold the ice is on their hands.

In our Mr Messy’s room, the children have been discussing ‘occupations’ and have created a lovely display all about, ‘When I grow up, I want to be a…’ they have spoken about lots of different jobs and discussed with each other what they want to do when they grow up. Some children said they want to be Doctors or teachers because they want to help and look after others. Other children said they would like to be aeroplane drivers so they can fly their Mummies and Daddies all over the world. We have also had children who want to be cake makers, truck drivers and hairdressers, the world really is their oyster! Our Messy’s children have also enjoyed making their own delicious ice lollies with different fruits and flavours, helping them keep cool and explore new tastes and textures.

It has been an exciting few weeks for our Pre-school children as they get ready to leave us and go to big school! The children had their Graduation on Monday 26th July and what a fabulous day it was, even the sunshine came out to celebrate with us. The children celebrated with a garden party, lots of fun games and of course, ice cream! Each child received a special certificate, Graduation cap and a party bag to take home. Other than our fabulous graduation, the children in Mr Clever’s have been growing vegetables, they have grown carrots, spring onions and radishes and often enjoy watering them to see how they grow. The children have been talking about how plants need lots of water and sun to make them grow nice and big.

What’s coming up next month

Throughout August we are hoping for some more sunshine so the children can continue to explore outside, and we can hopefully go ahead with our ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’- date to be confirmed. Our Babies in Mr Mischief’s are enjoying the loose parts and are continuing to add more ‘real life’ resources into the area to encourage the children to investigate and learn in a range of diverse ways.
