Wolverhampton December News: Exploring Textures, Role Play and Christmas Crafts

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

December news

Our babies in Little Miss Tiny’s have enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit this month by taking part in many Christmas play activities, including exploring textures and listening to musical instruments, such as bells. The babies have also enjoyed moving their bodies to a number of different musical songs, rhymes and sounds.

Our babies in Little Miss Curious have loved role pay during December. They have enjoyed being in the home corner, feeding the dolls and dressing them. The children have enjoyed mark making with pencil crayons, paint, glitter and gloop. They are really excited about Christmas and have enjoyed looking at the display in our entrance. They especially like the tree in their room! The babies in Mr Mischiefs have also enjoyed mark making with vehicles and have enjoyed role play where they all had a tea party.

During December, the babies in Mr Smalls have enjoyed getting into the festive spirit by reading stories about Father Christmas, listening to Christmas songs and learning the actions to simple Christmas rhymes. They have also enjoyed exploring the outdoors where they have loved the slides and chasing after the footballs.

Our toddlers in Little Miss Sunshine’s have been getting very festive and enjoying lots of Christmas crafts. The children have loved looking through the toy catalogues and making their lists for Santa. The children have also enjoyed exploring the Christmas sensory tray which is full of tinsel, baubles and festive items. The toddlers in Mr Bumps have also enjoyed celebrating Christmas. The children helped to decorate the tree and really enjoyed opening the advent calendar each day; which has something different behind every door that represents Christmas. They have also been craft making lots of special things, looking through toy catalogues and making their lists for Father Christmas. The children have also enjoyed listening to different types of Christmas music, dancing and learning lots of Christmas songs.

This month, the children in our Pre-school have enjoyed seeing what our cheeky elf Buddy has been up to each night. They have enjoyed learning about the Christmas story and even dressed up as the characters. The children have also enjoyed engaging in lots of Christmas crafts.

During December, we welcomed Ayesha and Kelsey to our team. They were both made redundant from their previous nurseries following the pandemic, therefore, they are both very pleased and excited to be working with children again.

Our employee of the month for December is Lakhvinder. Vinder always goes the extra mile to help us out and help out in the kitchen. Vinder is an asset to our team, thank you for all that you do to help us out.

Unfortunately, Joanne Downes left us in December. Jo had decided to leave full time work to care for her elderly father. We wish her and her father all the very best.

What’s coming up in January

As a nursery, we are excited to be celebrating Burns Night in January. Burns Night is on the 25th January and the children will be participating in a number of activities to extend their knowledge and understanding of this event and all the traditions that go with it.

During January, our babies will enjoy more sensory experiences with various activities. The team cannot wait to hear about what the babies get up to over Christmas. The babies in Little Miss Curious will be exploring books using props and sensory textures to help support imagination in retelling stories and creating nursery rhyme spoons. The children in Mr Mischiefs will be exploring lots of messy activities such as making slime, gloop and getting very messy. The children have been enjoying the home corner so much, engaging in pretend play, therefore, we will be continuing with this as well. In Mr Smalls, the team are looking forward  to the New Year where the children can further explore the outdoor environment, collecting leaves to make pictures. Hopefully it will be cold enough for frost and ice so that the children are able to explore the textures of both.

The staff in Little Miss Sunshine’s are looking forward to welcoming the toddlers back to hear what lovely things they have been doing over the Christmas break. Upon their return, they will be able to enjoy the home corner and lots of outdoor play. The staff in Mr Bumps are looking forward to welcoming all of the new children into the toddler room, talking about everyone’s Christmas breaks and enjoy lots of time outdoors.

In January, the Pre-schoolers will be looking forward to lots more messy play and playing outside, exploring the January weather.
