Wolverhampton August News: Rolling, Camping and Wildlife

Wolve August

Welcome to our August newsletter! I’d like to give a special welcome to our new families, and I hope you all enjoy reading about what we have been up to at Wolverhampton. This month has been a very busy and at times poignant month with lots of our lovely little ones leaving us to take on their next venture of going to school. We wish the all the best at their new schools and we are going to miss them very much.
August news

In the baby room Little Miss Tiny’s, the babies have been developing their early science skills by tipping and pouring using jugs, spoons and bowls. Staff have used coloured rice, pasta and cornflakes to help the babies with this and they have also enjoyed feeling the different textures and making gloop. They have also enjoyed exploring rolling, and have used various items to do this with staff helping them by introducing ramps, modelling how push objects down the ramp and the babies have enjoined watching which object rolled the furthest. They have also enjoyed celebrating Eid and looking at the bright colours and creating their own pictures with the bright coloured paint!

In Mr Small’s, the babies have enjoyed exploring the cars and how the wheels go around and have enjoyed rolling cars to their friends and familiar adults. They have also enjoyed exploring loose parts, such as rings, wooden circles and wooden pegs, as well as button toys such as the phones and books. The babies have also enjoyed mark making with the chalks and they have enjoyed watching the marks appear on the paper.

In Little Miss Curious the babies have been looking at sizes using the pom poms and comparing their friends hand sizes. They have also enjoyed making sounds with different objects such as the musical eggs, sensory bottles and also banging items together within the home corner. The babies have shown real curiosity through exploring different textures using paint. The children have become more involved with the daily registration and have started to introduce Makaton signs.

The babies in Mr Mischiefs have been interested in loose parts and finding different ways to explore them by using them to build towers and making marks with them.  They have also enjoyed the sand tray practising their emptying and filling skills.

In our Toddler Room Little Miss Sunshine’s, the children have really enjoyed storybooks and bringing them to life. Our practitioners started off with ‘We are going on a bear hunt’ by setting out a bear trail using mud water and leaves so the children could explore different textures, this then led onto ‘Room on the Broom’ where staff showed the children how to make their own potions as the children showed an interest in what the witch was making.

In Mr Bump’s, the children have enjoyed exploring different types of animals, after Lion Day the children have shown curiosity with how animals move, sound and how they look different.  For Lion Day the children have enjoyed painting their own lion and also created their own lion paw prints. They have also enjoyed sand and water play tipping and pouring and dancing to music using the musical instruments.

In our Pre-School room Little Miss Giggle’s, they have enjoyed exploring heights! They created a height chart and used this to measure each other, the children enjoyed finding out the tallest and the smallest within the room. They have also enjoyed lots of role play and the children’s favourite was role playing camping, they used bright lamps as fire and used blocks to create the campfire. The children created a tent and also made their own sandwiches and staff talked about safety around camp fires. They also enjoyed risk taking using pallets and ladders to look over the fence and they all discussed the different things they could see. The children have also been learning about oral health and they have used giant teeth and toothbrushes to practice brushing.

In Mr Messy’s, the children have enjoyed learning about schools, staff provided a fact book of all the schools and children discussed their new schools.  Children then drew a self-portrait of themselves in their uniform and independently labelled their work with their name. The children have also enjoyed the new puppet show stand within the room and the children used various materials to create their own puppets and acted out stories together.  Children have also turned the stand into an ice cream shop, staff provided resources and children made ice creams using shaving foam.  Staff introduced money in a till and children learnt money language through play. The children have been roleplaying going on holiday, packing their suitcases with what they may need, staff crated a beach using sand and water and the children learnt how to mix water into the sand to make sandcastles. There has also been lots of parties in Mr Messy’s for the children who are leaving to go to big school, they enjoyed playing lots of party games. During ‘tell a joke day’ the children enjoyed sharing their favourite joke with everyone.
