The children have had a wonderful November; they’ve been involved in many festive and cultural events, as well as learning different languages, and gaining a greater understanding of the world around them. We are all very excited about our up-and-coming Christmas events and activities taking place throughout December!
What a month we have had here at Whitstable! The children have had a fantastic time celebrating different events this month, including Bonfire Night, Diwali, and showing their support for Remembrance Day, as well as important weeks, such as Road Safety Week and Anti-Bullying Week. The children also had a wonderful week fundraising for Children In Need, where they took part in many activities, like “Pin the Spots on the Pudsey Bear” and taking part in sponsored dances and walks. The nursery raised £200 for the charity, so thank you to everyone that donated!
The nursery also celebrated Steve Irwin Day, where the children learned about Australian animals, and how Steve Irwin looked after and cared for the animals.
Each room also did lots of different activities this month to help build their skills. Babychoos explored different textures, colours and shapes, taking part in lots of craft experiences, such as messy paint splattering, and mixing colours. These activities helped the children to learn about how colours can be changed, and allowed them to express their senses, enhancing their fine motor skills.
The children in Caterpillars learnt about the changing in seasons; they collected natural resources from their gardens, and created their own weather board. They learned how nature and climate can affect change in the world around them. They also took part in a kite making activity, to understand and explore changes in the wind.
The children in Butterflies spent the month exploring letters and sounds, which they expressed through writing poems, short stories, creating menus and recipe books. They also have shown an interest in exploring different cultures, relating to their friends and family, and looking at different cultural food and books.
What’s coming up next month
Each room also has something festive to look forward to! The children in Babychoos will be creating their own “Santa’s Sleigh” and exploring Christmas lights they see in their community. The children in Caterpillars are very excited to be creating their own Santa’s workshop, building toy making machines out of junk modelling and creating a present wrapping station. The children in Butterflies will be exploring Christmas by turning their home corner into Santa’s grotto, creating props and learning about the North Pole.
We also have lots of fun events coming up, such as Christmas Party Week, Christmas Craft Week and a jumper day!
Other important information
The week commencing 6th December- 10th December is our Christmas Craft Week, where the children will be creating beautiful Christmas decorations and getting into the Christmas spirit! They will be enhancing their fine motor and creative skills.
Also during this week, it is the Christmas Party week! This exciting event will involve dressing up in our Christmas jumpers, a visit from Santa, a disco, party lunch and many festive activities. Every child will be able to take part in this on the day they are in, so no one will miss out. There will be a party food list located on our outdoor lobby displays for parents/carers to contribute if they wish. Please make sure these items are brought from shop in a sealed packet, not home-made due to the current circumstances.
The week commencing the 13th December- 17th December is the Sing and Sign week for Butterflies, where they will also be presenting a Christmas story in small groups. Please note that due to the present circumstances, families will be unable to attend the nursery, but the children will be taking the lyrics home, and links will be sent out for them to perform for you! Also, keep an eye on our social media, and eyLog where the team will update photos and videos of the children!
Also, our staff have been taking part in wood works training throughout November, and implementing this in planned activities with the children as well as everyday play.
Parents meetings: Thank you to all your feedback and suggestions from your questionnaires, your feedback is important to us to continue to improve the service we provide for your children. Please refer to our Parent/carers feedback information displayed in the lobby.
Primary School Places: This is a very exciting time for children leaving us to go to school in September 2022. Choochoos has a very robust transition process, which includes discussions with your children, role play and seeking advice from schools on what they would like us to be doing to help with the transition process. To help your child(ren) to prepare for school we will be planning school transition activities, e.g. including in our role play, social and school stories, songs, school photos books and more. Please do come and see your child’s key person if you would like some ideas for activities you could be doing at home. Please see attached some useful starting school tips leaflets.
Kent County Council have released the application process and dates, which I have previously shared and can be accessed on their website here. If you could like to discuss the application process or have any questions about it, please do get in touch with me and I’ll be happy to help.
Parent/Carer Meetings: Thank you to all of the parents/carers that attended our parent/carer meetings. It was such a wonderful success. We hope you found this time useful with your child’s key person. Thank you.
