Welcome to Sunhill Stowmarket Nursery’s newsletter! Let’s just take in for a second, we’re officially halfway through 2021! We stomped into the month celebrating Dinosaur Day, ROARRR! Through the month of June, we got involved in various different celebrations and festivals; from International Environment Day to Father’s Day. We boogied into the end of the month with International Music Day! This month really was jam packed with activities that helped and assisted with our learning and development.
We began the month by celebrating Dinosaur Day! We all loved looking at and exploring the dinosaur tuff tray and engaging in small world play. However, our favourite activity was becoming Palaeontologists and digging up dinosaurs. We used a paint brush to clear away the soil and sand to discover what was hidden underneath. Once we discovered the hidden dinosaurs, we used their feet to create prints in paint. Throughout the day we explored different story books about dinosaurs; our favourite was “Harry and his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs”.
As the sun was shining and the weather was glorious, it was time for us to get ready for International Environment Day. Through the month of June, we took part in some lovely summer walks to the Museum and our pre-school site. The Shooting Stars room loved exploring the museum where we had the opportunity to enjoy a picnic snack and story time in the open air. We also enjoyed looking at the animals and getting the opportunity to stretch our legs. When we visited the pre-school, we couldn’t wait to get ourselves on the climbing frame and play on the balancing beams. However, the best part was splashing about in the water play, we did get a little wet!
Throughout the month we used our creative skills to make our Dads and Father figures an extra special card for Father’s Day. We are all disappointed we could not have our annual stay and play pizza evening, but we hope everyone had a lovely Father’s Day!
To close off a month full of celebrations and festivals we danced the day away with International Music Day. The staff encouraged us all to cut some shapes to different music from around the world. We used our sensory lights to create our own private disco.
Throughout the month of June, the staff planned different activities that focused on different areas of development. The Twinkle Stars room focused on improving our personal, social, emotional development. We explored different emotion books and picture cards, and the staff members took their time to talk about their emotions. Also, we used mirrors to pin point key facial features. In our Shooting Stars room we used the month to explore our understanding of the world. We used the month to explore the town and people small world. To support our development further we went on walks to our local town, the museum and pre-school. While out and about we spoke about families, shops and road safety.
I think it’s safe to say its been another fantastic month for us at Sunhill Early Years Stowmarket.
What’s coming up next month
Next month is July! It’ll soon be the summer holidays. We might not be able to jet off and enjoy the sun on a tropical beach, however we have some fantastic festivals, celebrations and activities planned.
The 1st to 18th we will be celebrating international art. The staff will be planning creative activities that will help support our expressive arts and design, with painting using various different tools and equipment.
On the 4th we will be looking and celebrating Independence Day. We can’t wait to create our own fireworks, rockets & pictures! We will be looking closely at American culture.
The 29th is International Friendship Day. For the week we will be speaking about our friends, their feelings and looking at building relationships with others. Throughout this week we will be focusing mainly on our personal, social and emotional development.
Through the month of July the staff in Twinkle Stars room will be focusing on our communication and language. We will be carrying out different types of role play that will support our development. We will also be carrying out small group story times, allowing us the opportunity to talk about the story with adults and our friends. Within the Shooting Stars room our main focus of the month will be our physical development. We will be exploring potty training through books, baby role play and much more.
