What a fun-tastic February we’ve had at Stowmarket Nursery. From feeling loved on Valentine’s Day, to full bellies on Pancake Day. At nursery, we have celebrated various different celebrations and had a lot of fun.
To start the month off, the children looked at and explored Chinese New Year, the year of the Ox. At nursery, the children took part in creating their own firework pictures using various equipment as well as creating their own Chinese lanterns. Also, the best part was snack time where the children experienced some Chinese styled dishes.
As February started flying by, we got to Valentine’s Day where we started to feel the love! The Twinkle stars room carried out a social distanced disco, where the children moved their bodies to the beat of the music! Afterwards, the children explored our Valentine’s tuff tray. In the tray, they explored rice, paint and glitter. The children used the palm of their hands to brush it around the tray. Some of the children were a little unsure of the texture, however, gave it a go!
The Shooting Stars’ room loved baking their own Valentine’s biscuits. The children enjoyed learning the names of the ingredients and mixing them all together. Each child took it in turns to help mix, measure and pour the ingredients. They then used a heart shaped cutter to cut out their biscuits and decorated them with pretty icing. The children used their fine and gross motor skills to help them create and manipulate their beautiful biscuits. The children also spoke about the people they love in their lives whilst baking.
Soon after Valentine’s Day, we can’t forget our favourite celebration! PANCAKE DAY!
It is safe to say, we all loved Pancake Day! The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring pancake ingredients; flour, eggs and milk. They started by pretending to make their own pancakes; scooping the flour up with a little spoon and using very good hand control, the children then concentrated by pouring it into a little pot.
During the activity, the children spoke about the eggs, flour and milk and how these when mixed together, makes a pancake mix. The children even repeated the key words, saying them very clearly. For snack, the children had their own pancakes and everyone had very full tummies!
What’s coming up in March
On the 4th March, we’ll be celebrating World Book Day. Please feel free to dress your child up as their favourite characters to help celebrate this day. Also, we would like parents to bring your child/children’s favourite stories to nursery so that we can read them throughout the day.
On the 14th of March, we will be celebrating Mother’s Day. Due to COVID, we, unfortunately, won’t be able to carry out our usual afternoon tea and stay and play. You can, however, expect loads of crafts from your little ones on this special day!
On the 29th/30th of March, we will be celebrating Holi festival of colour! To celebrate the first day of Spring, we will be dancing and singing to music from around the world. Along with group painting activities.
Over the month of March, the baby room will be focusing on their senses. With this, the children will explore loads of messy play activities as well as with sensory play; exploring textures, sounds and smell. Shooting Stars’ will be following on from the children’s personal interests and looking at Spring and animals. They are planning walks to the museum of East Angular Life to see the animals.
