July has been so very busy here at Small Friends! Our children have loved being able to get outside a bit more in the summer weather and have all enjoyed exploring the water activities. We would like to give a warm welcome to our new families that have joined us. The children has all settled in so well and are loving exploring their environment.
Throughout July we have celebrated Children’s Art Month. The children have been busy making and creating a wide range of masterpieces and have especially enjoyed learning how to form new shapes and developing their skills with scissors.
In our Caterpillar group this month they have been learning about Festivals and Celebrations. They enjoyed learning about the Holi and Purim Festival and loved using washing up brushes to paint with, making masks and crowns using a wide range of colours and sparkles. The children have been developing their language skills especially when exploring books around these celebrations and have used some lovely language to describe what they have seen in the images and to communicate what they have learnt to others.
In our Butterfly group a big topic of interest our children have had this month was of course Euro 2020. The children all loved taking part in a variety of activities such as having a game of football, designing their own football kits, creating their own flags and they especially enjoyed celebrating England getting into the final and having a party to celebrate! The butterflies have been developing their understanding of emotions throughout this topic and using their new found knowledge to think of others. Before the final some of children described how they feel such as excited, happy and nervous. Some of the children after the finals had a discussion and showed great understanding and empathy towards the players about how the players might be feeling with some lovely comments such as “they tried really hard” and “they must feel sad not to get the cup but did a good job though”. For children who are at such a young age they truly have the biggest hearts.
What’s coming up next month
In August, the children are going to be learning about Science and Investigations! We will be investigating lots of experiments such as what happens when we let air out of a balloon, exploring things that float and sink, investigating magnets and what will stick to them and lots of other fun things.
We will be continuing to learn about the Olympics where we will be making our own Olympic torch, investigating fun sports where we can practice our throwing and catching skills, balancing, obstacle courses and exploring some new ways to exercise such as Yoga.
Other important information
Firstly, a big congratulations to Jamie who has passed his Level Three in Childcare!
Please can you ensure your child comes to nursery wearing a labelled sun hat and has had sun cream applied. We will top this up throughout the day using our nursery sun cream. If you would prefer them to use their own, then please bring in a labelled bottle and we can apply this.
If we could ask that if your child is unwell that you keep them at home until they are well enough to return. If they have any symptoms of COVID 19 please ensure they have a PCR test before they return, not a lateral flow test. If you, the parent has symptoms, please remember that the family need to isolate whilst waiting for the result and your child should not attend.
If your child will not be attending for any reason such as they are unwell, having a day at home or on holiday then please let us know each day your child is not attending by 10 am.
Throughout the summer holidays as always you can see our home learning ideas in the window. If you have done something fun, please do upload the pictures to Parent zone as this helps the children tell their stories about what they have been up to. If you need any help with this, then please let us know.
We just wanted to remind you of our Refer a Friend scheme. When you refer a friend and they join the nursery, we will thank you with a £100 discount off your next invoice. We know that you are always recommending us, so we just wanted to say a big thank you for your referrals. There is no limit on referring your friends, so please do refer as many people as you like! We are always very grateful for your support and look forward to welcoming more of your friends into our nursery family. For more information and terms and conditions, speak to the Nursery Manager.
Thank you for all your continued support.
