This month, we have really enjoyed investigating ‘Our World’ with the children. We had a lovely themed day where the children enjoyed a traditional fish and chip lunch prepared by our lovely Nursery Cook, Jackie. The children have learnt about the capital of England and used media to support their learning. The children built castles and palaces which also extended their learning by using measuring tools to see how high their models were! The children have loved building models with the soft bricks, singing “London Bridge is Falling Down” and knocking them down and building them up again.
The children have also enjoyed learning about ‘Animals around the world’ as so many of the children have an interest in animals and the living world. The children have used a range of craft materials to make animals and talk about the patterns of the animal’s fur and coats. The children have also been learning about the different countries which animals come from, looking at the world map and the globe. We always have a book running alongside our themes and interests and the children have really enjoyed a favourite of ‘The Monkey Puzzle’ and ‘The Scarecrows Wedding’ at story and circle times.
Finally, the children are learning about the languages different people in different countries speak around the world; as well as at nursery as some children speak dual languages. We hope that the children will be saying hello and goodbye to each other in different languages soon and gain confidence in trying this with the adults and their friends. Jackie is also going to be introducing some snacks from around the world for the children to try.
What’s coming up in October
Following on from the children’s keen interest in Dinosaurs across both groups, we are going to be learning more about Dinosaurs! Those that fly, those with horns and all sorts of dinosaurs. Where they lived, what they ate and so much more. At the end of the month, we will be doing all things Halloween! We very much look at this as the coming of Autumn; colours, textures and spiders but nothing too scary for the children (or staff for that matter!).
Other important information
Can you please ensure that when your child is dropped off or collected at nursery, that the adult is wearing a mask or face covering. We continue to ensure high standards of cleaning at regular times throughout the nursery of surfaces, touch points and resources. Thank you for continuing to follow the government guidance, especially in regard to seeking a Covid-19 test if someone in your household displays symptoms, and the rules around self-isolating. Please get in touch if you have any questions surrounding this.
This month we welcome back Yvonne and Alanna to Small Friends. It’s lovely to have them back with us and they are surprised (as we all were) at how much the children have changed; their growth and their progress in development.
This month, we also had our Environmental Health Inspection. I am so pleased to tell you we kept our 5 star which shows the hard work and dedication Jackie puts into cleaning, prepping and preparing snacks and meals for the children.
The school admissions are now open. Applications are made online. The admission round is between the 14th September 2020 – 15th January 2021. We do have a sign in the nursery window with more information but this is a reminder for you; all children born between 1st September 2016 and 31st August 2017 are due to start school in September 2021. If we can be of any support during this time, please let us know.
We are really pleased to welcome our new children to Small Friends and the children who have returned after lockdown. The children have settled in so well and are making good relationships with the adults and their peers. Please keep a regular eye on Tapestry, our online learning journey, for observations and updates and any changes in key person.
If you have time, we would be very grateful if you could leave us a review on Daynurseries. You can do this online by clicking here. Thank you for your continued support.
