Royston August News: Painting, Balancing and Nursery Rhymes

Royston August

Welcome to our August newsletter! It has been a great month, full of laughter and learning as the children have taken to the lovely weather by spending much of their time in the garden.

August news

In Twinkle Stars this month we have had lots of fun getting creative, encouraging the children’s grasping and sensory development with the paints and glue. The children have been pushing the cars back and forth; to extend on this we facilitated the walkers for their physical development to push bigger objects. Twinkle Stars loved singing nursery rhymes, they had the freedom of choosing the song by using picture flash cards.

This month in Shooting Stars we have been very interested by textures. We created a messy activity using our brand new tuff tray which had a variety of shiny objects in which laid on a bed of tin foil. The adults incorporated descriptive words such as shiny, crunchy and soft into their conversations with the children. We have also been setting challenges for the children to help to develop their physical ability during nursery by supporting them in learning how to climb to the top of the slide and walk on the balance beams.

The new children in Sunshines have settled really well. They have spent lots of time in the garden, playing in the sand, water and messy kitchen. They have also been learning how to climb the climbing frame. We have also been doing lots of painting and sticking, experimenting with colours and mixing them. The Sunshines have followed the routine well and have enjoyed singing during circle time.

This week in Pre School 1 we have welcomed the children into our room that have moved up. We have been practising scraping and washing our plates after meals. We have been enjoying looking at all the different flash cards, such as the transport, body parts and shapes. We have been mark making using the sand and paintbrushes. The children have enjoyed playing in our bigger garden and have made different foods and objects in the sand pit and the mud kitchen. We have enjoyed listening to the different audio books and discussing the stories. We have been practising our puzzle skills and really enjoyed the Gruffalo puzzle.

This month we have said goodbye and good luck to some of the children who have left to go to school. We have also welcomed the children who have moved up into the Pre School 2 room and we look forward to supporting their development. During the last few weeks we have been learning about different occupations and the roles people play. To extend on this we have enjoyed dressing up and carrying out role play to build on our knowledge and use our imaginations. We have also been using our imaginations and creative skills to create artwork using a variety of materials to stick with and colours to paint.

What’s coming up next month

Next month we are looking forward to welcoming lots of new families as well as our term time children returning. The Autumn term starts again on 6th September.

Activity for home

If you are looking for something to do at home this weekend or over the coming months, why not give our activity at home a go! Be aware that some activities or ideas may need to be adapted to suit your child’s age and development.

Paint with your hands and feet

  • Get a long roll of lining paper, old wall paper or material

  • Then use your hands and feet to decorate the paper
  • Display the artwork in your windows for people to see

What will your child be learning?

  • Independence, creativity and choice

  • New vocabulary, e.g. big, small, red, blue, green, feet, hand, etc
