A very warm welcome to our March newsletter!
This month, as a whole nursery, we celebrated Mother’s Day, where the children made Mother’s Day cards for someone special. The children also enjoyed some cooking activities where they made biscuits. The Nursery Chef helped the children in making the biscuits and they were excited to have him around in the rooms when he was doing the different cooking activities with them. The children took the biscuits home, so we hope you received them and enjoyed them!
The children also celebrated Global Recycling Day in March where the team set up activities for the children to learn about how to re-use the materials for junk modelling. They made some useful items and toys. This month, we also celebrated World Book Day and it was fantastic to see so many of the children dressed up as their favourite book character. They looked fantastic!
Throughout March, the children in the baby room have been learning about different colours. The children have also enjoyed dressing and undressing the dolls. The team have introduced different characters to the children using puppets, role play dressing up and a diverse range of books. In addition, they have also done a variety of sensory play activities, such as exploring playdough and investigating different textured materials in the builder’s tray.
In the Sunshine room, the children have been doing more sensory activities this month. They have learnt about assorted colours and textures, using coloured cotton wool and cling film. The children have also learnt more about different animals and their young, helping them to understand a little more about the changes we see in the environment as the season changes to Spring. The children have noticed different animals appearing and some animals, which they had previously seen quite a lot of, starting to become less common.
Over in Pre-school this March, the children have been learning about different seasons and the changes between them. The children have learnt more about Spring, and have planted seeds and beans in their individual flowerpots. This linked in perfectly with the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.
This month, the children have also taken part in a flower colour changing experiment. The children dipped the flowers in different colours and watched as the flowers changed colour. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experiment so we hope to do some more soon!
What’s coming up in April
Next month across the nursery, we will be celebrating Easter! The children in each room will all enjoy an Easter egg hunt next Thursday, on the 1st April 2021. The children will also be participating in a variety of different craft activities themed around Easter.
Towards the end of the month, on the 29th of April, the children will be celebrating International Dance Day. We invite the children to come to nursery wearing something that is special to them to help celebrate this day. They will take part in lots of dancing throughout the day, to different kinds of music heard around the world!
