We would like to welcome all our parents and especially our new parents to our June newsletter. We hope you’ve had a lovely month, and enjoy reading about what your little ones have been up to!
In the Pre-School Room the children have been exploring some fun science experiments. They used salt and water to melt ice, which freed a toy butterfly trapped in the ice. To extend their learning, the children learned a trick to make a colourful butterfly painting, by folding the paper in half and adding paint on only one side of the paper. Why don’y you try this fun activity at home? They also experienced the reaction between vinegar and baking powder, where new words have been introduced to them such as carbon dioxide. To go alongside this, we added some syringes, different food colouring and tea strainers.
During outdoor play, the children used writing boards and markers to represent butterflies, letters and shadows. One of the games that we enjoyed this month was Musical Chairs where we learned skills like playing fair, focus and being patient. We also introduced water tray back into our room, ensuring that all the safety procedures are being followed to minimize any possible risks, the children enjoyed playing with the water especially when the weather was hot.
In the Sunshine Room, the children learned about different animals, their food, where they live, and the noises they make through reading various stories and extending their learning in the small world area. They also made some lovely animal prints on paper plates.
We introduced different texture resources and materials where the children developed their sensory awareness, and were able to speak about each texture they experienced during their play around the builder tray. The children have been learning how to keep things clean through washing bottles, animals, and clothes; keeping them clean and shiny. We discussed the importance of cleaning all items we use and how to keep ourselves safe.
In the Baby Room, the children developed their physical skills through several activities during indoors and outdoors play, where they were encouraged to use the claiming frame and the rocking horse. “If you’re happy and you know it’’ was one of the babies’ favourite songs this month! The children had lots of fun trying to copy the practitioners actions.
What’s coming up next month
Next month we are looking forward to celebrating International Friendship Day, where we will make cards and read stories about the importance of friendship and how to become a good friend.
Eid al-Adha is between 19th and 23rd July, where the children will learn about this Muslim celebration and how they celebrate it, using various visual resources.
