Welcome to our October newsletter! We have been spending lots of time outside exploring the various weathers we are currently experiencing from rainy mornings to sunny afternoons.
In the baby room the children have been busy getting creative making cards for their grandparents for grandparents’ day, they really enjoyed looking at the photos of their grandparents which were sent in by families and the children had big smiles on their faces when they noticed who was in the photos. The babies also explored pictures of planets and they explored a space sensory tray with pretend planets and sensory bottles. The babies are getting a lot more confident in joining in with their weekly boogie beats sessions and they are begging to copy actions and get more involved in the session. We have also been enjoying exploring the autumn treasures in a sensory tray that our babies collected with their families. We are now preparing the room for Halloween and getting activities ready for it.
In Toddlers the children have loved exploring all the items they had collected with their families this involved a lot of communication about the things they had found and where they had found them this introduced lots of new words and descriptive language about the objects and the different colours of them when they were exploring the autumn tuff tray. We have also been exploring the fallen leaves from the trees outside and how they change colours.
Toddlers really enjoyed space week where they explored a sensory tuff tray of black sand, glitter and shiny planets, they also read the story whatever next which led to lots of communication about space.
Preschool have been showing a big interest in sea creatures for a while now so they have continued exploring the different sea creatures and learning the different names of the sea creatures and learning lots of information about them all. The children have been doing junk modelling to create different sea creatures from whales and jelly fish to seahorses. They have also shown an interest in fairy tales, so we have been focusing on extending the children’s interest and learning on the stories Billy Goats Gruff and the Three Little Pigs by creating the pigs houses using different materials, they have also been reenacting the Troll’s bridge from Billy Goats Gruff.
Space week was a really big hit again this year in preschool as they learnt a really catchy song about planets, read lots of books about space and they loved the sensory tray of black rice with pictures of planets, stars and astronauts.
What’s coming up next month
We have lots of exciting days to look forward to in November!
Next month we are looking forward to Bonfire Night where we will be looking at pictures and videos of bonfires and fireworks then creating our own firework masterpieces. The children will also be looking at pictures of poppies and creating pictures for Remembrance Day, there is also a short video clip for the children to watch whilst the staff do their 2 minutes silence. We also have World Kindness Day on the 13th of November so we will be talking about gentle hands, being nice to our friends and being kind to each other and how we can do different things to be kind.
Toddlers have shown a big interest in the story Stickman so this will be the story of the month and they will be doing lots of activities based on Stickman.
In November preschool will be continuing to look at traditional stories to extend their interest.
We will also be doing lots of activities for children in need from arts and crafts to baking, we will be dressing up in pyjamas or Pudsey bear clothing on Friday the 19th if we could please ask for donations towards Children in Need.
