Oxford November News: Creativity, Nursery Rhymes and Festivities

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

November news

In the Baby room, we have had a very busy and fun November as we celebrated Diwali and Bonfire Night. The children created bonfire paintings and explored sparklers in the garden. The children also explored activities relating to red in order to mark Remembrance Day as well as dressing up in red to commemorate the day. The children have also enjoyed World Nursery Rhyme Week this month where we focused on a different song every day. The children sang the chosen song throughout the day and explored a sensory table based on the song. The children have also been practising their pen grasps by colouring pictures of each nursery rhyme.

Throughout November, the Toddlers also celebrated Bonfire night, Remembrance day and Diwali. The children really enjoyed creating their own interpretations of fireworks using our salad spinner and choosing their colours to create their beautiful art work. We also talked about the importance of Remembrance Day with the children and why we commemorate the day with poppies. The toddlers really enjoyed the two minute animated animal episode from CBBC explaining the importance and meaning of this day with animals.

For Diwali, the toddler children enjoyed exploring coloured rice and mehndi patterns as well as enjoying some lovely Indian food. The toddlers enjoyed learning about what makes us different and what makes us the same.

At the beginning of the month, the children in Pre-school also celebrated Bonfire Night. The children made their own bonfire and firework pictures. The children were really excited about fireworks night and they even watched a few clips of fireworks on the tablet.

What’s coming up in December

In December, we are looking forward to getting creative for Christmas and creating lots of masterpieces to take home. We will also be singing new Christmas songs and exploring our Christmas books. Although things will be different this Christmas, we will celebrate just the same at nursery and we have even started getting in the festive spirit by putting our decorations up.

We will be taking part in Christmas Jumper Day this year so we invite all children to join in by coming into nursery in a Christmas jumper on the 11th of December. We will be taking donations for the charity Save the Children on this day for those that wish to donate.

We will also be taking part in The Old Station Nursery Group Christmas Advent Challenge. Each day in the lead up to Christmas, one nursery within the group will take part in a Christmas challenge and post a photo or video to our social media channels. We welcome parents to join in; tag us and use the hashtag #OSNAdventChallenge. For more information, take a look at our social media channels!

We also have a special advent calendar prepared for toddlers where we will open a door and find a new activity for the toddlers to do in the lead up to Christmas.

Other important information

Please can all children bring in a named hat, gloves, scarf and wellies as the weather is particularly cold now and we like to get the children outside in all weathers.

For term time only children, term ends on the 18th December. For all year round children, the nursery will close at 1pm on Christmas Eve. The nursery reopens on January 4th for all year round and term time only children.
