Oxford February News: Owls, Ice and Pancakes

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

And just like that, February has disappeared! It has been another very busy and fun month at nursery. We hope you all warmly received your Valentine’s creations – a little bit of love can spread a long way.

February news

In Babies this month, we have really enjoyed welcoming and getting to know new friends who have recently joined us. A very warm welcome to The Old Station Nursery family. The children have been engaging with lots of mark making and sensory discovery; all with a variety of themes for Valentine’s Day, Pancake Day and Chinese New Year. The children have been really curious exploring the family board this month; this really helps link home and nursery to your child, so please do send in photos if you haven’t done already.

February has been a busy month for the Toddlers. Owl Babies has been their story of the month and the children have thoroughly enjoyed it. The children have created their own owls and habitats, to make them their own homes at nursery. The children have also been practicing some Toddler Yoga, creating positions with their bodies for the owls to hide in.

Pancake day was a huge success, not only to eat delicious pancakes but the children also thoroughly enjoyed flipping their own playdough pancakes in a pan after making them; exploring the gloopy, sticky, texture flour and water makes before moulding them into their own pancakes.

This month in Pre-school, the children have been focusing on change, growth and planting. The cold snap was fascinating when all of their mud kitchen had been turned into ice. The children had a wonderful time hammering the ice blocks out and smashing them! The children have also been really intrigued by rhyming sounds and rhyming activities during February.

What’s coming up in March

Next month, we will be looking forward to Mothering Sunday, St David’s Day, St Patrick’s Day, and World Book Day. It is going to be another busy but fun filled month at nursery. Watch out for further details about how we will be celebrating these events.
