Oxford August News: Ice Paints, Mark Making and an Animal Dance

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

August news

How August has just disappeared! This time of year always comes with mixed feelings; excitement for our oldest children embarking on their new adventures, with a hint of sadness as they will all be thoroughly missed. But also the eagerness to welcome and settle all of our new families joining.

The babies said a sad goodbye to some of their friends who moved to toddlers this month, but also a big hello to some new friends. The babies have enjoyed splashing around in water this month to stay cool while it was so warm. They have also enjoyed mark making and celebrating a few 1st birthdays this month.

We would like to welcome all of our new friends that have moved to toddlers from our 0-2’s room and have settled in so beautifully. We will also be welcoming Elisha, from preschool, who will be moving to join us in September. Throughout August, the children have been learning a dance routine that incorporates moves to mimic how different animals move. It has been brilliant to watch the children move in all kinds of different ways!

We have had such a busy month in preschool, gearing up to say goodbye to our school leavers. We will miss them all but know they will all thrive in their new schools. Throughout the month, the children have continued their interest in life cycles after they released the butterflies last month. They have stayed cool through the recent heatwave with ice paints and ice curiosity cubes to chisel and melt away, revealing what was inside.

We also welcomed some of our toddlers into preschool who have recently celebrated their 3rd birthdays. We look forward to welcoming all our new families this coming September.

What’s coming up in September

We have some very exciting events coming up in September which we hope will be not only fun, but provide some great learning opportunities for the children.

On the 13th of September we will be celebrating Roald Dahl Day. To celebrate a love of reading, we will be looking at some classic Roald Dahl books. While we can’t have books come in from home at the moment, feel free to bring your child to nursery in fancy dress as their favourite Roald Dahl book character.

From the 21st – 24th  September, we will be engaging in Recycling Week. We will be exploring different materials and how they can be recycled as well as making models from recyclable objects.

Other important information

Can I please also take this time to remind Parents and Carers that your nursery bag needs to stay at nursery, if you need it to go on holiday, please do let us know and ensure it is washed before returning. Also, with Autumn approaching, please provide your child with all in one wet suits and welly boots as we head outside in all weathers, as you can never predict the British weather!
