November News: Remembrance, Parks and Pudsey

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

Hello, this year is certainly flying by and we have certainly had a very busy November! We would just like to say a massive thank you for your continued support especially in the last few weeks, and would like to welcome all our new families to the nursery.

November news

Our Butterfly children have enjoyed learning about different festivals, celebrations and special days this month. They have enjoyed learning about the Hindu Festival of Diwali where at circle time we learnt about what the festival was, their culture and beliefs, with the children making some beautiful pictures of candles to take home. We have been discovering what Remembrance Day is all about and making a poppy to put on our front door, with the children and practitioners taking part in a two minute silence. The children have also been learning about the word charity and how they help others and celebrating Children in Need. In honour of Pudsey, they have been making pictures of bears and exploring Pudsey themed playdough!

The Caterpillar children have also been super busy. They have enjoy going over to the local park and exploring different signs of Autumn. The children have been creating some firework pictures when learning about Bonfire night and also enjoyed looking at them out the window before going home on the actual day. Throughout the month the children have been learning lots of new words and we have really seen a big development leap in the children!

What’s coming up next month

December is always a busy month and there will be lots of things happening for the children to get involved in. Some dates for your diary include the 10th December Christmas jumper day, where the children are welcome to wear their Christmas jumpers throughout the week so they all get a chance to show them off!

14th December will be the Christmas Dinner day, then on the 17th December we have our Christmas Party day. Week commencing 20th December is the Christmas fun week, where the children will be taking part in lots of Christmas themed activities and games to explore.

Other important information

We would like to welcome Jaylei to the nursery who is working as a member of bank staff. She is studying for her degree and is already settling in to the nursery and getting to know all the children.

Please ensure that now it is getting a little colder, your child has a named coat, hat, scarf and gloves with them – as we do play outside in all weathers. Labelling everything your child wears makes out job a little bit easier!

This month, we have received a lot of new reviews on Daynurseries, Google and Facebook. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such lovely reviews. They are hugely appreciated by our team! If you haven’t had the chance to write a review yet, you can write one on Daynurseries by clicking here, on Google or on Facebook. Thank you for your continued support!

Here’s to a fantastic and very festive month ahead!

Home activity

If you are looking for something to do at home this weekend or over the coming months, why not give our activity at home a go! Be aware that some activities or ideas may need to be adapted to suit your child’s age and development.

Create your own stained glass window

Please follow the activity idea below:

  • Use card to make a window, draw and cut out panes for the window.
  • Use tissue paper or sweet wrappers to create your stained glass effect, stick with glue or sellotape.
  • Alternatively you could do this with newspaper and old magazines.
  • Display for all to see.

What will your child be learning?

  • Independence, creativity and choice.
  • Mark making.
  • Colours.
  • Shapes and size.
  • Developing fine motor skills.
  • New vocabulary, e.g. big, small, cut, square, circle, window, red, blue, green, etc.
  • Sense of pride, achievement and self esteem.
  • Use of tools for a purpose.
  • Give meaning to marks they make.

Please share photos of your child’s activity on the parent app. We look forward to seeing your child’s updates.

Please continue to share what your child has been doing within their home life on the parent app, their interests and their development, so their key person can see this and use towards helping them monitor their development and learning.
