Dear Parents and Carers, I hope you are all well. We have seen some lovely days this month and we have been spending more and more time outside – and making more and more use of our “secret garden” as the children like to call it! We have also been out and about, both rooms having local trips to the park, Cockle Sheds, Marine parade and the beach which the children have loved!
The children have all looked after the caterpillars this month, watching them eat and eat and eat! They were in their Chrysalis’s at the time I last wrote and since then, they have turned into beautiful butterflies! The children have really enjoyed watching them eat their food and oranges, getting stronger. And finally, the children really enjoying getting involved in releasing them in the nursery garden and watching them fly!! What an amazing experience and some fantastic learning for the children.
The topic in both groups this month has been Mythical Creatures which has ranged from the children’s interests with extensions of mermaids, princesses, dragons, wizards and giants!
The children in the Butterfly room have enjoyed engaging in stories such as ‘Room on a Broom’ this month. The children loved joining in and anticipating what would happen next. They have been involved in lots of crafts as well, including cutting, sticking and painting. The children all created their very own mermaid and merman tails! In addition, the children are also enjoying planning to make a fairy garden. The plans all started on their visit to the beach, when they made fairy landscapes in the sand with shells and seaweed.
The children in the Caterpillar room have enjoyed the “That’s Not My” book range this month. The children have loved joining in with repeated refrains which is helping to develop their confidence and vocabulary. They have also enjoyed tuff tray set ups and sensory bags, allowing them to show curiosity, explore and investigate different textures, media and materials.
What’s coming up next month
Next month, we will be looking at and exploring Occupations. It would be great if we could get ahead of ourselves and if applicable, please do email us a photograph of what you and your family do as a job. This will be very helpful as we will be able to use these to prompt discussions about the roles that are carried out in the community. In the past, we have had wonderful photographs of the wonderful (and unique!) jobs that you all do. Thank you in advance!
On the 1st June, the children will be celebrating National Dinosaur Day. The children will be engaged in all things dinosaur throughout the day.
Other important information
Kirsty has updated her knowledge of the EYFS and is keeping abreast of future changes that will be coming into place surrounding the curriculum. I will update you further on any changes that will be taking place nearer the time.
Can you please let me know of any holiday dates that will mean that your child may be away from nursery as this really helps with planning.
Please also ensure that you collect your children on time as we are seeing parents arriving after 6pm more and more often now. If you would also like to see a staff member, can I ask that you arrive a little earlier please so we can give you the time and attention that you deserve. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
A small reminder that the car park behind the nursery is not ours. Please do not park there as you may get a ticket. The owner of the care park has been to see me numerous times about this.
We have heard from some schools regarding transition and what it will look like this year. We have spoken to teachers on the phone and we have a couple of teachers coming in to see us and the children. I will let you know if your child’s school have made contact. A lot of parents are asking me about their child stating school, how they will be phased in, uniform etc. I will always try and help as much as I can, but I would encourage you to phone the school to find out specific information as they are all very different.
A small reminder that it is bank holiday on Monday 31st May and the nursery will be closed.
Thank you all for your continued support.
