Little Houghton March News: Creativity, Village Walks and Delicious Meals

I hope you have all been enjoying the *slightly* nicer weather we have had recently. It certainly has been very refreshing to see some sunshine and also to see the evenings becoming lighter for longer.

March news

We have been making the most of the nicer weather by having lots of lovely walks around Little Houghton Village. We are so lucky to be in an area where we are a short walk away from open fields, a park and animals such as horses and sheep. The children love visiting the horses who are in a field very local to us; they are called Polly and Jack and the children often ask us to go and see them. A recent visit has sparked lots of questions from the children about where the horses live, what food they eat and how people care for them.

For Mother’s Day, the children made some lovely cards and gifts to send home. The children in Ducks make keyrings, the children in Bears decorated jars with hearts in and Preschool, the children planted some miniature daffodils

We also celebrated St David’s Day this month by having a lovely lamb casserole and homemade Welsh cakes, made by our Nursery Chef, Sarah. The older children also did some still life paintings of daffodils.

In March, the children also celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by having a traditional meal of gammon, mashed potato and cabbage. They also listened to some traditional Irish music in the rooms, painted Irish flags and later displayed them in the windows.

Preschool having been working on the children’s name writing in preparation for the children going to school. Between now and September, we will be working on different core skills such as name writing, early phonics and letter sounds, recognising their names and lots of other things that will help with the transition to school.

What’s coming up in April

Next month, we are looking forward to celebrating Easter. We will have lots of fun Easter themed activities on offer as well as having an Easter Bonnet competition for the Bears and Preschool children. A notification about this has gone out to parents on Tapestry with further details.

Other important information

Please can you let us know which school your child has been accepted at when it is released mid-April. We can then begin to make a start in contacting each school to liaise with them and ensure that they have information about each child before they sadly leave us in September.

As previously communicated, we will be moving our Facebook page over to join The Old Station Nursery Group’s social media channels at the start of April. Not only will we be on Facebook, but this now means that we will be on Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn too! We have already started providing regular content so please do make sure you are following to keep up with all of the fun things that happen in nursery.  Follow us by clicking here for Facebook, here for Instagram, here for Twitter and here for LinkedIn.

Thank you all for your continued support.
