Iver November News: Diwali, Cress and Children in Need

Iver Newsletter June

Welcome to our November newsletter, a warm welcome to all of our new families, we are so proud of how well the new children are settling in! November has been another month full of celebrations and exiting learning opportunities for our children.

November news

This month the children observed Remembrance Day; they made and decorated poppies including poppy shaped biscuits, as well beautiful poppy wreaths. Taking part in Children in Need was an opportunity for the children to discuss and understand the meaning of charity and how we can help the less fortunate. Children came dressed in yellow and participated in a variety of activities such as making and decorating Pudsey Bear biscuits!

Diwali was celebrated with children coming in dressed in their traditional Indian clothes. They made and decorated their own ‘Diyas’, explored the story of Rama and Seeta by acting it out using story props. Children also enjoyed dancing to Indian folk dancing. The celebrations were concluded by Andy’s special, beautifully decorated curry feast!

We celebrated Bonfire Night by making bright and colourful pictures, and throughout the month all children participated in cooking activities through out the month, wearing their little chef hats and aprons, how sweet!

Babies had lot of fun taking part in a variety of sensorial activities. They enjoyed mark making in their red and green sand tray, as well as dressing in yellow and explored the yellow sensory tray full of different materials enhancing their learning. The favourite story of the month was “All In One Piece” by Jill Murphy. Toddlers enjoyed taking part in activities using the Sensorial Touch Table; they used 3D shapes of letters, numbers and shapes and were exploring these objects using their, audio, touch and visual senses. There were many opportunities created in role play and within the routine to promote their understanding of sounds and mathematical skills.

Pre Schoolers are thrilled to see how the cress seeds they planted are growing in their own little pots, remembering to care for their plants daily by watering them. They observe the difference in growth and confidently share their observations during discussions. Children continue to explore letters and sounds and mathematical knowledge during play and child led activities.
